"They all wound. The last one kills."

(1/1)

jIHaD:
Saw this in a book. It was engraved on a sundial.
OMNES VULNERANT. POSTUMA NECAT
They all wound. The last one kills.

I have something for a Klingon version:
QID Hoch. HoH HochDIch.
Each wounds. The last kills.
Or:
nIQID Hoch. nIHoH HochDIch.
All wound you. The last kills you.

Personally, I like the first one. Short, succinct, feels more "Klingon" to me.
But I would like to hear opinions.

{Also, in case you're wondering, the book was The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte.}

I in fact like the latter one... It makes it more personal. Both are pretty short anyway, being in Hol...
Maybe I just like the last one because I like the English translation better 8-) They both hit home.

Hol = short form of "tlhIngan Hol", the Klingon language

Qunchuy:
I'd prefer QavwI' final one instead of HochDIch "allth", last in a sequence. The -DIch construction strictly belongs to ordinals, and doesn't seem right to me when there are no other numbers mentioned.

I also prefer the version without verb prefixes. If you do want them, nI- is not the right one. It specifies a plural subject, which might work for Hoch but not for HochDIch or QavwI'. Try instead Du- it wounds/kills you or lI-, which calls out the plural "you" as the object but can indicate either a singular or plural subject.

jIHaD:
Okay, so I'm thinking:
DuQID Hoch. DuQID QavwI'
Each wounds. The last one kills.

Although I kind of preferred HochDIch to QavwI'.
That way there was a parallel: Hoch and HochDIch.

But I see the reasoning.

QorvaS:
That phrase sounds like General Martok describing women and marriage!  ;-)
