Yes, I know what it is, but not how to fix it. When you create a post or a PM, the board looks up a list of people who are to be notified that the topic has been updated and sent them email. The error is saying that the mail server couldn't be contacted, so it couldn't send out the email. This has been an intermittant problem from time to time. We have to yell at the hosting company and let them know their email is acting up again, or still...

It seems that most of the times the Message still posts anyway... (Do not Know about PM's though)... Are they getting through inspite of the Error Message?
(Just sent one to Kesvirit, I guess I'll know if she responds...<Grin>...).

Of course! I should have thought about the sock monster! I just need to sacrifice a single matched sock every day and it should be appeased! But then I have to store all those other socks from the pairs... Offering the mate of a sock that the sock monster has already taken is he most vile affront. If we did that we'd earn it's unending ire for sure...

Perhaps this is the origin of the tradition of pinning a Sock to ones mantle around certain Holidays...?

the trick is to buy two pairs of each sock when you buy them. Then when you sacrifice one out of each pair you still have a matched pair left for you.
I actually suspect that they (the monsters) come pre-installed with your washing machines. I think though that they have a breeding colony in my house.
abbot, you just might be right about that theory!

This has become a lovely diversion... I am still curious however if PM's are getting through?

Yes. PMs and posts are being processed. The only problem is with the email notification. So they won't get email telling them to come to be board and get thier message, but the next time they log in they will be able to see they have a new message.

Do you guys not know how to fix this error "fsockopen(): unable to connect to klingon.org:25"?
It seems that the hostname "klingon.org" doesn't resolve to an IP, which means that your DNS isn't setup correctly. There are a couple of ways to fix this. Change the DNS record for "klingon.org" to point to the same IP as "
www.klingon.org
" (this should have been set when you created the orginal DNS records, but I guess it wasn't" or change the forum/php settings to point to
www.klingon.org
for the smtp server.
One of those two things should solve this problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. Klythe has been working on that -- I'll pass them on.

Attempting to trick the Sock Monster by purchasing matching pairs will only inflame them more, one should not meddle in the affairs of sock monsters too much. Between them and the Underware Gnomes it's all one can do to keep the dresser and hamper in check.

Klythe has implemented said changes... Here's hoping that the fsock fek'lhr* has been exorcised and that PM/post notifcations will resume. Let me know what happens (or doesn't).

Yes... In fact I anticipate that even as I post this I shall in fact be rewarded with said error message...

Lady K’Zin has just informed me that in an attempt to ditch the sock monster, she had the web server upgraded. Hopefully this will solve a few of those niggling little technical problems that refuse to be solved.
