What I would like a translation of is a quote by Gen. Patton.  The quote goes something like this:

"No bastard ever won a war by dying for their country.  You win by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

nuqneH. Heh Heh. That's a good one. I am just beginning to teach myself Klingon, but I give a crack at it since no one else seems to have.
This should take me several days.

This is a great quote from a great general. Quite apt for a Klingon and a reminder that honor is not everything, winning is important too.

''The Klingon Way'' has the following quote:
   noH QapmeH wo' Qaw'lu'chugh yay chavbe'lu' 'ej wo' choqmeH may' DoHlu'chugh lujbe'lu'.
(Destroying an empire to win a war is no victory, and ending a battle to save an empire is no defeat.)

So I tried to adapt it, without any references to bastard, and using enemy:
   SepDajvaD Heghlu'chugh, yay chavbe'lu'. yay chavlu'meH SepDajvaD HeghnIS jagh.
(Dying for one's country does not achieve victory. In order to achieve victory, the enemy needs to die for his country.)

Alternatively,
   SepDajvaD Heghchugh petaQ, yay chavbe'. yay chavmeH petaQ, SepDajvaD HeghnIS latlh petaQ QIp.
(If a bastard dies for his country he does not achieve victory. In order for the bastard to achieve victory, the other stupid bastard needs to die for his country.)

petaQ = bastard
jagh    = enemy
Sep     = country
Hegh  = to die
yay     = victory
chav   = to achieve
latlh    = the other
QIp     = stupid

I must admit I'm not totally sure what Patton means. I first thought that "the other poor dumb bastard" referred to the enemy. Then I realised it could also refer to the soldiers under Patton's command. Hmmm!

I believe Gen. Patton meant the enemy when he made that statement.
