Imperial Klingon Line Registry Project "Wish-list"...

qa'pIn (SoplaHtaHwI'), is currently working on a very important project which when completed, could become a very good resource for those who wish to use it.

The idea is to create an on-line, interactive Database, of Families/Houses/Lines within Klin-dom (Klingon Fandom). This would contain content added by those who chose to *Register* their Family/House/Line with the Database. Ideally this information would be updateable by those who made the original entry. This will likely take some time to get working properly, and to include the many possible features which might be useful in such a Database.

Some possible features which have been discussed as likely to be a part of the initial version of this interactive Database are listed below:

- Family/House/Line name.
- Age of the Family/House/Line.
- epetaI {Leader} of the Family/House/Line.
- P.I. {Political Index} of the Family/House/Line.
- Type {Family/House/Line type, defined as Closed, Extended or Open}.
- Link to the Family/House/Line web-site {If available}.
- Family/House/Line device or logo.

Per the request of qa'pIn, I am starting this thread, specifically for people to add any "Wish-list" items, that they feel could be useful for such a Database. Some things that I would like to see are:

- A registration process, where the person making the entry would be issued/be able to choose a Password in order to be able to edit the content of their entry.

- A Detailed F.A.Q. which would address the nature of the various fields which can be filled out in the Database.

- A "How To" block of instruction for additional guidance on entering information in the Database.

- A well thought out (But Optional), method for determining the relative P.I. of a given Family/House/Line. (Likely an on-line form/questionnaire which would ask a series of simple questions, both Real World and Role-play about the Family/House/Line. The answers to these questions would then be scored and yield the relative P.I. of the Family/House/Line in question.

- Updateable "Contact" buttons, in order to reach the Moderator and or a given epetaI. (Or the Manager of the entry).

- A link to an updateable Family/House/Line history page in the Database. (For those that do not have a web-site for their Family/House/Line).

- A field dedicated to listing any Clubs or Organizations where the Family/House/Line is known to exist. Basically this could be sort of a "Cross-reference" for those who may be looking for a Family/House/Line to join.

- A field dedicated to any other particular items of interest for the Family/House/Line, such as a particular affinity for a specific branch of service, or towards a particular type of activity such as shipbuilding, mining, weapon production and so on.

Others are welcome to add their own ideas, ask questions and elaborate on any of this, with the acknowledgement that not all ideas may be possible or desireable.

The registration process is actually the only thing that does work at the moment 

I have been working on an F.A.Q. and will certainly accept plain text versions of such, which can very easily be incorporated into the site.
I will take care of the integration of parts, but do ask for help with anything content-related. Graphics and text, for short.

I believe in accessibility for all, so anything should be accessible by anyone. This means I will use as little java as possible, I use a strict (x)html/css-only  combination with php for database communication alone and expect those with more physical foes to battle than I to give me a shout when something doesn't contain enough information for them to fully understand/navigate the database.

The wishlist as it stands now is... extensive, but possible.
First order of business is the return of the add-feature and the addition of change and remove. And of course the re-opening of the doors

And please do not be overwhelmed by the current wish-list items, or how long it might take to implement them... It is after all just that... A "Wish-list"...<Smirk>...

As to JAVA content, I am not really familiar enough with such to know what would or would not likely be JAVA driven?

Also, is there any way to unlock the site enough for me to have a look around again? I honestly do not remember exactly what is currently up there... (Possibly PM me a functional URL or something so that we can have a more specific discussion about current layout and look of the site and so on)?

If you could start with an F.A.Q. on the meaning of the fields as you mentioned them above (House name to House device/logo)... and a draft of PI scales you mentioned in the other thread.
I think a link from the FAQ to the PI scales is something I will provide (it's a link, after all)

There are perhaps some things in common... And it is good that we respect such... But I sort of see this as a slightly different kind of project, as it will be a bit more interactive (In terms of adding and editing content for instance)...

Regardless, the more resources out there the better in my less than humble opinion... Especially since this project will not *Require* that a Family/House/Line have an established web-site, much of the information will be directly accessable right there, not to mention the "Potential" for a useful P.I. tool... Which is something which I do not believe that I have ever seen implemented...

*of course in my opinion, no one in fandom should ever attempt to be the main house of a FASA line, but that is an easy rule for me, since I don't use a FASA line.

As this grows, and multiple entries are attempted for the same name, this will become a problem, without a way to differentiate between two entries.

I actually thought I had put something similar up there...<Ooops>... This would be a very necessary addition... Even some Fan created lines have personel in multiple clubs (I know of at least Two)... And certainly there are both FASA and Canon lines out there that share names...

My guess is that we could not possibly enforce such things, but I am in complete agreement... But then I am on a quadrant wide *Anti-cheese* campaign 24/7...<Smirk>...

Very true, and this could even provide the possibility of interaction between such *Branches*... We could include some simple *Deffinitions* to help guide people on the requested ettiquet in both entry and respect of other groups...

Adding the affiliation and branch is not too hard and can be done really quickly.
It's just what order of checking uniqueness should I work in.
Currently you cannot add a House name that's already in the database...
maybe start with the House, check for the branch and then the affilliation?

I am nearly done with the First draft of the Forward and F.A.Q. please send me either a PM with an E-mail address, or send an E-mail to klingonsummergames@hotmail.com with your contact info so that I can get this to you for Approval or Comment when I finish it.

It should also be noted that I am writing it with a "Forward thinking" perspective, and have included F.A.Q. itmes for several features that may not exist yet, or which will take time to work the bugs out of... I did this so that we could have some "Motivation" to keep the project alive and developing...<Grin>... Anyway, the point being, don't panic if you see something which does not look familiar, or which we may not have discussed yet... Likely I am trying to cover as much ground as possible in writing the F.A.Q. items, rather than there being a communication error...
