Hello! My name's Xena (yes, it really is. It's not a made up screen name rolleyes) and I live in British Columbia with my wife Kas and our numerous and much loved furkids. I make my living as a Martial Artist (I run my own Dojo, White Lion Martial Arts Centre, and also have integrate online studies through my Women's Self Defense Dojo, Amazon Nation www.amazonnation.ca )
I am also an avid fanfic writer, writing in many genres, including Trek. My most active writing groups are in yahoogroups and encompass Trek, Star Wars and Xena:Warrior Princess.
My other passion is the Equestrian world, I have two degrees in Equestrian Business and Sciences and train and show horses Hunt Seat and Dressage.
My life's a pretty open book, so fire away of you have any questions.  Smiley
I see one familiar face here all ready, in T'Vala (she is in one of my writing groups). ::waves::  Grin

I'm looking forward to delving into the archives here and reading many interests topics of discussion.

Welcome to the Klingon Imerial Forums.  Kesvirit and I are around if you need any help.   She used to work a lot with animals...  Me, I'm just a city-dwelling Furry.

Wow, amazing.  Did you have your name legally changed?

     I have to ask...  Furkids?

Thank you for the welcome, Klythe! Smiley

No, I didn't have my name legally changed, it's just my name. The 60's were a time of naming your child odd things, but I think my mother was a Seer, as the character ended up looking like me, too. LOL I did 5 years of professional Lucy Lawless lookalike work, and probably still would be if the I lived in a more populated area. If I could figure out how to post pics, I'd show you.  Grin

"Furkids" is what we call the animals who share our lives. My wife and I can't have human children, but we love our dogs, cats and assorted other animals as if they were our kids, hence the term "furkids" (kids with fur).  Cheesy

Welcome to X'na.  I for one would very much like to see this picture.  I think you have to email it to the moderators and they will include it if they think its appropriate.

Again welcome.

Thanks for the welcome, Kehlan!  Smiley

I think it's easier to just have those who would like to see a picture, email me and I'll send one. There's nothing innapropriate about it, just a picture of me in my leathers to prove I'm not making stuff up.  Grin
Besides, I like to retain control of my pictures and if I can't upload directly to a forum or list, I just ask folks to contact me directly and cut out the middle man.  cool

And a hearty "Welcome!" to you, too, D'ghor! Smiley How do you like it here so far? Isn't this a great bunch of Klinfolk?
Costuming, eh? I envy you...I don't have a crafty bone in my body. Cheesy  I wish I did, but alas...
A hobby of mine is collecting fantasy miniatures and painting them, and I'm terrible at that (but it's a lot of fun!). I can't imagine how horrid a handmade uniform of mine would turn out. LOL
Good luck to you with your costuming efforts and thank you for the welcome. Smiley

Thank you for the welcome, brother Abbot. I've seen your wise postings on many other threads,. I'm very glad to 'meet" you.  Smiley

As for me posting on other threads, I'm one of those people who just can't keep quiet if I have something to say. Sometimes that's a good thing, and others it's debatable. Wink

Many thanks for the welcome, and I'll look forward to chatting more with you in the future.

And How... (On the Jumping in on a Discussion Thing)... I Would like to "Think" that I am Selective about what I Jump in to... (Yeah Right...<Grin>...), but the Reality is that I Have an "Opinion" about just about anything and Everything... As Fortune and the Sword would Have it, this seems to be the Case with many around here as well...<Smirk>...

Regardless... Indeed it is Good to Meet You as well...

X’na, how do you pronoounce your Klingon name? The nearest I can come to the spelling “X’na” is the Okrandian {QIna}, or {QI’na} if you are really attached to the apostrophe. But I know well that not all Klingon names have their origins in the tlhIngan Hol...

I would render her name as  qI'SIyna or if I felt more like breaking some rules, for a name is much more acceptable to break rules) qSIyna.  The way I pronounce 'Xena" I don't shorten or stop either of the two vowels, which is what the apostrophe does in Okrand's writing system.  Okrand's Klingon gets really messy really fast when you try to stretch it.  So it's probably best not to try and force it too far.   You should see how messy my name comes out!

That would have been fun to be 'famous' as a TV character took your name and likeness...  And you had enough honor not to seek a lawyer to sue them for stealing your life story!  Cheesy Klingon Grin   Well, I guess the whole "Lawless" thing helped!  Cheesy Klingon Grin

As I personally am not a strict adherent to Hol (language) dogma, any one of the tranliterations above is acceptable to me. But none answers the question I put to X’na -- how she pronounces her Klingon name. The above are all transliterations for “Xena”, which I understand to be her name-of-convenience for use with non-Klingons who are unlikely to get a Klingon name right on the first (second, third, nth) try.

What I want to know is, how is “X’na” pronounced? The thlIngan Hol pronunciations I gave were mere approximations. When I try to sound out “X’na” as written in Roman script, I get “eksna”, which sounds like my neighbor’s dog sneezing. I do hope that X’na will once again grace our boards and settle this question once and for all.

I don't know what I was thinking...  I should have trusted my instincts assuming X'na is pronounced the same as Xena, as "Zina", then just *SIyna* is the closest legal transiliteration, if you want to break the rules, HSIyna to apporximate the z sound.

X'na is pronounced the same as my real name...Xena (pronounced 'zeena').

I really don't care how you're "supposed" to  spell it in Klingon, that's my Klingon name, and I've been using it for years. If folks don't like how I spell it they can bite my chakram.  Tongue

i may not be completely canon all the time, but my heart's in the right place. So there ya go...how my name is pronounced.

Sorry I haven't been around lately, I've had a lot of other things to do, not the least of which is preparing for my mother's arrival in a week. It'll be her first visit to Canada and I'm trying to make sure she has a good time while she's here. Wish me luck on entertaining her for two weeks.  Smiley

Many thanks, Abbot! I can use all the good vibes I can get. We live in a very secluded area with not many fun things to do. Our movie theatre is a single screen in a single building, if that gives you an indication of how backward this place can be.  Smiley  Not that my mother is used to a big city (far from it!), but I'm just wondering what we'll do for two weeks for fun with very limited funds.

I see a *lot* of video watching in our future. LOL

On the plus side, I miss my mother very much and can't wait to see her. It's been two years since our last visit and both my wife and myself are greatly looking forward to seeing her.

ROFL Abbot!  Smiley

My mother would never figure out how to game in a million years, although I *am* going to try with my Star Wars miniatures. The gaming system is really easy, maybe even she can figure it out. But the FASA...no way. She'd get tripped up over character creation, LOL

Actually, it's turning out that she's sleeping most of the time, so I can jump online occasionally (oike now, hee! hee!) and do my email.

Gods, I hope I don't sleep that much when I'm her age....

Thanks for the happy visit vibes! Smiley
