Perhaps You Could Go into a little more Detail on the Flash Card Program of Which You Speak?

It's called KLIFLASH, short for Klingon Flashcards. It runs on Windows (only, sorry!), 95 through XP.  It contains every Klingon word through December, 2002 (2287 words , I think).  It was originally beta-tested by several members of the Klingon Language Institute but otherwise has no connection to the KLI. It's gone through DOS versions 1 through 5, then I ported it to Windows, and I am about to release version 2.

It uses progressive learning techniques to guide you through the vocabulary, and arranges the words in what I thought was the most useful sequence (so you learn words like {tlhIngan} or {loD} 'man' long before {vem'eq} 'a bird that eats serpent worms'). It also contains several special subsets of the total wordlist, with words organized by topic, so you can study those words of special interest to you.  For the bold, you can choose to display the Klingon words in pIqaD.

The program is freeware, by which I hope to avoid Paramount's wrath (worked so far!).  It's available for download from my website.  Am I allowed to give a link to my own site here (I'm new to this forum etiquette stuff)?

ter'eS,

I Went to The Site and D/L the Program, I'll try to Take a Look at it this Week... It Looks Fantastic, and I Feel Strongly that With the Permission of Kesvirit, or Klythe you Could Not Only Post a Link but that they Will Encourage you to Hype it as well... I See this Sort of Creative Effort as Exactly the Kind of Tool that Folks Need/ Could be Looking For... I'll Let You Know More about my Impressions opnce I have had a Chance to Play with it a Little...

Qapla'! and Well Done...

Certainly. Post the link to the program download in this thread, then add an introduction and link to your general site in the Introduce Your Website section.

I would encourage you to continue to make the old DOS program available.  For those users who do not use Microsoft Windows. thwy are unable to use any version of your very useful program.   Many non-Windows platforms support some kind of DOS emulator, such as Dosbox or DosEmu, or can install something like FreeDos a small DOS Environment on thier computer as a secondary operating system on their computer.

Also, the DOS version would probably be much easier to port to other operating systems.  If you still have the source code, you might find someone who wants to port it to another OS.   I'd want to do it myself, but even if my programming skills were up to that point, I wouldn't have the time to do it...   But there are others out there that might...

Actually, it is available.  If you go to the KLIFLASH page, at the bottom of the table are two files, klifv5.zip and klif52.zip.  The v5 one is the last
DOS version of the program itself , and v52 updates the wordlist to match the K4W version.  If you want to run the DOS version, install klifv5
first, and then update it with klif52. (The table says to use klifv5 to update an older version of the DOS program, but you can also use
it to do a first-time installation. I'll change the page to mention that.)

Ah.  My mistake, it looked like just the updated packages not the full installs.  Hehe.  *Downloads to his Zaurus and starts to hack away at getting it to work*

I Have Started Using the KLI Flash Card Program, and I really Like it Thus Far... Thank You for the Use of this Tool...

One Low Priority Project I have Been Working on is a Coparative Klingonaase-tlhIngan Hol-English Word List/Dictionary... I Noticed that You Have a Word List of "New" Words Compiled From Canon Sources... I Would Like to Ask Permission to Use this as Part of My Efforts, Do You Have any Issue with doing so?

And I would Very Much Like to Know the "Sources" for Some of these Words if that were Possible? (i.e.) Rather a Word Comes From a qep'a' (One of the KLI Gatherings), Or From Some other Source... As Part of the "Ideal" Concept here would be to Give Anyone who used it (And myself of Course), an Idea of Where the Word Originated...

The KLI's New Words list gives sources for all its words.  Virtually every word in my Newest Words list came from various KLI qep'a'mey
(conferences), although I'd have to look around to find what years they were revealed.  Let me know if you need to get
more specific.

maj!

I appreciate your Support... If Most of the Words On Your Word List are from the qep'a'mey, then that Should be Sufficient... As Far as Specific Dates of the Source qep'a'mey go, I do Not Need to Get that Detailed at this Point... I Just Want to Make Sure that I am Noting the Sources Properly...

Again I appreciate the Hard Work Which You Have Already Done, it will make My Consolidation a lot Easier...
