According to legend, Kortar, the first Klingon, along with his mate, destroyed the gods who created them and turned the heavens into ashes. Now, the Klingon underworld (Gre'Thor) is
reached by passage on the Barge of the Dead, correct? Is Kortar, the first Klingon, the Barge's
pilot? And if so, what of Kortar's mate? Does she suffer the same fate as Kortar? And does
she even have a name? Perhaps someone can shed further light on this for me. Thank you.

I would think that the main factor here is why is Kortar piloting the barge? Is he doing it our of a duty to replace the gods or because of some final punishment given out by the gods? In the case of a duty, I would think that he would only bind himself to the task at hand, but in the case of a punishment the role of his mate in the act would also come into play. Then of course there is always the loyalty aspect, if he was going to do this for eternity, his mate might just choose freely to join him out of love/honor/loyalty.

     Since not even the gods could stop their hearts beating for one another, I'm sure they also could not pull them from each other.   They are at eachothers side, because that is how they wish it.  If the gods were defeated and destroyed, how could they suceed in imposing their will on the couple?

I Think that qoSagh has a Good Point here (Carried over From other Discussions about The Killing of Klingon Gods), in that if Kortar is doing his Duty, by Taking on the Responsibility of Piloting the Barge, than it is Not Something necessarily which has been "Thrust" Upon him by the Gods, so Much as His Duty to Take Responsibility for the Vacum Created by his Actions... Presumeably His Unnamed Mate would Be Similarly "Obliged", but Perhaps to Fill some other Role that we Simply do not "Remember"...?

I'm binding some threads together here, if that's ok...

Ok, I see the merits of keeping it in the minds and fora of the fans.

I do like the idea of the afterlife being one whole with the river of blood connecting all parts, as discussed elsewhere. Also I see Kortar's mate more in the "door(wo)man of Stovokor" roll, and qeylIS and lu'qa'ra' as the hosts, albeit not the regal types that might be portrayed.

Both qeylIS and lu'qa'ra' strike me as honest, hard working klingons with history on their side.
I don't see veqlargh as either male or female. veqlargh is veqlargh.

qeylIS = Kahless
lu'qa'ra' = luqara
veqlargh = Fek'lhr

Honorable Klythe,

Your thoughts on the *Book* angle, and on the contributions, and the importance of those contributions of the Fans to this cultural legacy are well stated and and excellent!

In fact, it has occurred to me more than Once, that with the immense amount of material that has been discussed and developed on these and others forums, there is sufficient resource already in existence (Not to mention the creativity you spoke of before), to provide plenty of useful information for a book... Maybe *We* (Those within Klin-dom who are interested), really should consider actually writing One? Not just about Kotar and company, but on any number of cultural questions...(Of a Klingon nature specifically of course)...

SoplaHtaHwI'

Yes, that River of Blood would be something of a connective passage leading to all aspects of the Afterlife, is an excellent model...

I too see QyelIS, {Kahless} and the Lady Lukara {I am not familiar with a *Klingonized* version of the Great Lady's name}, as being almost more "Working Class" Klingons, perhaps somewhat noble in their "Common" backgrounds, than as Royalty... We actually have little to go by unfortunately, though my own perception (And thus opinion), is based in no small part upon the behavior of the Clone of Kahless (Or QyelIS wa'DIch, as he is also known), as portrayed by Kevin Conway in ST:TNG "Rightful Heir"... And it has also been established (In DS9), that Kahless was not considered "High Born", though his descendants who can still be found within the Klingon Imperial Court, are considered to be "Of the Blood"...

Like Martok, Kahless sort of enjoys that "Local boy makes good" repore with the people...
