It Should be a Blast... (As Usual)...

Yet another event that would make the Airlines happier than my Banker. I wonder how many Klingon Feasts are outthere. I know of one in Maryland, One in Daytona and one I think in Ohio. The Karizans did a couple, years ago, in New Jersey. Might be fun to see how everybody does things differently or the same.

I Would Love to Attend other Feasts as well, This is the Seventh Year )I THink that it is Seven), that Our Group (Not the Library), has Put on the Feast in Daytona. It has Gotten a Little Bigger Each Year. It Started with about 12 People I Think, and This year we are Expecting about 130... (Last Year was Smaller than Usual as the Hurricanes Kept many away)...

The one in Maryland is held at Shoreleave each year. I believe that next years format is changing. It was a standard buffet type dinner, with various Klingon performances and presentations. The new format has been described as a Klingon version of quarks bar. I think that will be hard to do for a limited time slot like a feast. IF it is open all day, thus being more bar like, it could be interesting. That sounds expensive to run, however.

I saw an amateur theater group do a version of 10 forward at a con in NYC a long time ago. They traveled from Georgia, and did this at cons all around the country. Set up in a small ballroom off the main floor, charge $2 to get an all day pass. They served kool-aide out of these huge 10 or 20 gallon tubs, and just filled the room with their own actors/role players to interact with the public.

It would be a momentous undertaking to do something like that as Klingons, but what a glorious undertaking it would be also.

A Few of Our Number Go to Shore Leave (or at least Have recently)... I Have Heard that it is Most Worthy...

Our Feast is Pretty Much a "Mini" Klingon Con... No Guests, No Dealers, But lot's Of Panals, Games and Events Like the Klingon Warrior Contest... Usually there is Live Music (War Band), and On Sat Night the Long Tables Come out End to End And Great Platters of Meat Are "Dumped" on the Table... No Utensils, No Napkins... Lot's of Meaty Gloved Paws Digging into the Pile... The Hotel Staff Always Line Up to Watch the Good Natured Chaos...<Grin>...

I didn't know warband was still out there. I downloaded some poor copies of their songs awhile ago. Glad to hear the lads are still at it.

As for utensils, on my one trip out to Dover, there were 6 of us in our group (5 Klingons & 1 Romulan...long story) At the opening banquet, we picked up our salads and delivered them to the federation tables, saying we understood that they ate the same as our food eats. Then we took all the silverware and dumped them into the empty bread basket, eating the entire meal with hands and le'veks. That got us a special visit from the founder Joe Manning.

Well War Band Comes out of Semi-retirement for the Feast Occasionally, And We are Hoping to have them for the KSG as well...

A Few Years Back Some Members of the Fighting Fourth Were "Invited/Hired" to Host a Klingon Murder Mystery on a Couple of Cruises For some No Name Entertainment  Company... The S.O.P was to Immediately Dump all of the Flatwear on the Floor, along with the Napkins... The Poor Mostly Non-English Speaking Kuve were Quite taken Back and Confused by this action... It took Two Trips Back to the Kitchen and Out to The Dining room again with "Clean" Utensils only to have them again removed from the Table, (Accompamied by many Confused Grunts from All of us at the Table), before the "Greeter" was Called in to Translate... (Apparently the Servers had never Met Klingons Before...<Grin>...)... The Other Diners were Rolling in the Ailes laughing at the Sillyness...

The Next Bit Of Chaos that required A "Translator" was When I Was Asked What Sort of Salad I Wanted by a Barley English Speaker (Apparently Trained In only Enough English to Differentiate Between One Menu Item and Another)... I Pointed to the Menu and Said "This Ceaser, he was a Great Conquerer of Your Earth History Yes?"... To Which I was Met with a Blank Stare... This Went on until again a "Translator" was Brought in to Clear things Up, By Now Our Table Once again had the Attention of the Other Diners... Once the Fact Had Been Established that Yes Ceaser Had Been a Historical Conquerer of Earths Distant Past, I Proclaimed Loudly "Then I will Take His Salad"!...<Chuckle>... Again Lot's of Laughter and a Bit  of Applause ensued...

Now In a Normal Setting I would Not be So Obnoxious to People Trying to Do their Job, But Since we Had Been Hired by the Cruise (Through the Entertainment Company), to be in Character While in Gear... Well I Just Could not Pass up the Opportunity... Over All it went over Very Well... We were only Slightly more well behaved the Night we were Seated with the Captain... (Even then we had Approcahed him in advance and asked "Permission")...

There are No Salads Served at Feast... Though there are usually Tasty Roasted Potatos!

I would say that since your "performance art" had been witness on other nights, the Captain deserved whatever he got after inviting you to his table. Although given what we have been discussing about submission ceremonies it would have been interesting to stand an wait for him to throw the first punch, an act he would have almost certainly not been prepared for.

The subject of being hired for events is an interesting one, becuase most people really don't  know what they are asking for. I also wonder what paraborg would think about someone being paid to be Klingon.

The First Night the Captain did Not Eat During the Same Sitting as Us, Though Perhaps the Word Got Around? Anyway, It Was His RL Ship so we were not Going to Push things too Far...

As to PB... I DO Not Know that they would have Appreciated it much... But Since Our "Payment" was Basically Passage on the Ship it was Not Really Taxable, Nor Profitable... Also I Do Not Know The Significance of Such things in International Waters... Either way we Only Ever Did Two of These... (Though I Would Certainly Do it Again if the Opportunity Came Up)...

I would take the chance for that also. The subject of making appearances like that has come up a few times before. The only offer I got was someone who wanted a 10 minute walk through at a wedding reception over an hour from my house. When I explained that it took close to 45 minutes to do the quick version of the make up and that it would not be worth it to make the trip walk through and leave, they decided they didn't want me there. I know of one club in Maryland that has been quite successful with this type of event, so it can work. For a free cruise, I can see doing it.

It was well worth the Time for Me... It was a lot of Fun, And it was a Free Cruise! It also Happened to be my First Cruise. We Did Two "Klingon" Murder Mystery Cruises, and One Non-Klingon "Blues-Cruise" Murder Mystery for the Company... The Klingon Stuff Went Over Better Because People "Got It"... The Blues Cruise (Although VERY Kewl), Was Really about all of these Old Blues Musicians Getting together to Party and Jam, so the Whole Murder Mystery thing Kinda' Got Lost on the Majority of the Crowd... That One was on the Big Red Boat However, which was A Bit of a Step up from the Boat we had Performed on Previously... Regardless I Don't Suppose that PB ever Found out, but Like I Said we only did a Couple of them...
