Slipping Battle Sash

My battle sash only has half-a-dozen pins attached and already it slips down out of place as I move around. How to best hold it in place or weigh down the bottom corner to stay down?

It depends partly on how your battle sash is built and how you wear it...

What exactly is your sash made of? Is it made of fabric, vinyl, metal mesh? That could affect it's "slip factor"... Wink

Mine is fairly long and meets at about hip level in a triangular point. I actually have the front section of it worn under my belt, under a nice decorative belt buckle, which helps keep it from slipping around. The back of it is left loose and untucked, since I have a sort of decorative cape that comes out from under the tunic yoke in the back.

You might want to consider using a hidden safety pin, attaching it to your uniform, near your shoulder to help keep the sash from slipping. I used that on a different type of sash that I used years ago and it worked pretty well...

Good luck and let us know if it works out for you.

I don't have personal experience yet with wearing a sash (my uniform is on hold temporarily, g'day't that medical school), but velcro spots in a few areas might work. And those can be sewn easily enough to both sash and uniform.

Slipping Sash

I agree velcro could be a viable solution, but you would always have to wear the sash or have the velcro attachment area at the top of the shoulder be visible.

Another option would be silver snaps. Anywhere from 1 to 3 small snaps could be mounted on the shoulder armor and would blend-in nicely. The other half of the snap would be attached directly to the sash. I attached these to a strip of felt - then glued the whole assembly to the underside of the sash. This works with just about any material (except large link chainmaile).

Sash mounting

After a lot of trial an error, I found two good ways for mounting a sash.
The first was a no#6 velcro hook, this is the type of velcro, we used it a lot in the military, and it hold real good, I think a 7 might work real good too.

And I like the snap Idea too, that also seems to work [IF] you are using a chain mail sash that is.

I got tired of waiting for others to make a uniform for me, and did research on my, and started making my own tunics, I learned a lot and am still learning.

One thing for sure, no matter how bad it turns out, if you make your own tunic, it's hard for someone to argue with you about it, if they bought thiers and you made yours.

There are a lot of great folks out there with talent, that do not mind pasing what they learned along.

If the Sash is Made of Material, Vinyl or Plastic Mesh, You Can Always do What I do which is to Saftey Pin it at the Shoulder, Works Great Stays Put and Can be Attached to Whatever...

If You Have Heavier Materials Like Metal Cording, Chain maile or the Like You Might have to Go with Something Heavier Duty Like the Snaps...

My first sash was fabric, and didn't really hold it's shape well, so it kept bunching up. My next fabric one was better made but was actually the same fabric I ended up getting my tank top made out of, so I had to change the sash. I currently wear one that is made of metal washers and wire, with red ribbon woven into the links. It is sort of like Woof's sash but sits flatter and well isn't a sign of transitional honor as his is. With all three of these sashes I have used Velcro to hold the shoulder in place. First I had a shirt with the other piece of the Velcro on it, now the fabric of my tank top actually keeps it in place well enough.
