I had originally compiled this list to be included for reference in another KIDC Forums post/page regarding Forum rules and guidelines, but as it never materialized I'm going to put this up now.

This list is by no means exhaustive, but includes terms that come to mind from a few years of hopping around the net. Some are in general usage while others are more commonly found on Usenet or among personal web pages. A few may be unique to the Forums. If you think I'm missing something obvious or important, let me know and I will add it to the list. Many posters come from Yahoo; I have never navigated its groups system, so if any of you Yahooers? Yahoovians? (whoops -- wrong fandom) find that I've missed slang in common usage there, speak up!

Klingon organizations

Thanks to the member who pointed out that I don't always define abbreviations in my posts as well as I ought. Anyone interested in persuing the extensive slang and abbreviations of different fandoms and fandom in general are urged to visit Kielle's CFAN glossary. If you come upon something you don’t recognize, try the Acronym Finder. If all else fails, contact the original poster and ask for an explanation.

Has YATI gone out of style? Seems so useful, although I still am morelikely to spell out the phrase, Yet Another Trek Inconsistancy.

Anyway, I thought we were all simply a bunch of yahoos. I read some of the lists at yahoo, but I don't remember any unusual MLAs (multiple letter acronyms... hey, I knew you knew it, but this is the acronym expansion thread!)

Has YATI gone out of style?
Has there been a sighting of it?

I have never seen it on the net though I am far from having hit every page or post out there. But I think it may pre-date the proliferation of Trek on the net and have gone out altogether with the demise of the print zine. (Can anyone else confirm or refute this?)

<wearing wistful expression while dissolving into flashback> I haven't seen or heard that phrase since the Golden Age of Trek Lit. Back in jr. high myself and a few cronies with similar interests started keeping track of the inconsistancies within the Pocket/Bantam line and between it, the shows, and the movies that were out at the time. (When last I counted, the Romulan Commander from "The Enterprise Incident" had suffered six different fates as the result of her role in botching it with the cloaking device.)

Though abbreviated YATI we pronounced it "Yeti", as in Saquatch. Myself and some others established a discrepancy/contradiction chart at one of the high schools in the area. Whenever someone would find another inconsistancy, said intrepid explorer would inform fellow scholars in what has since become known as their best Jim Dial: "There has been A Sighting". Either it would be phoned in to whomever was administrating the chart at the time along with refrence sources for confirmation, or those who could would head on over to make the Formal Notation.

You may laugh now, but mind you that this was before ParaBorg had assimilated the universe and we had to make our own fun. If nothing else it served to help keep us off the streets.

Then TNG came out and started contradicting established precedents (not to mention itself) on a weekly basis, and the YATI board became rather pointless. When I was last there in '92 our successors were still sporadically adding to it, but by that point it was a total mess and there wasn't much point. Sad

Can I introduce you to IKEF - the Imperial Klingon Expeditionary Forces,
Their Website is www.imperialklingons.com

They are one of the few to actually have chapters in the UK, even if they are all too far away for me personally to get to.

I know of one other IKEF that was not part of that group. As far as I know it never stayed much outside of New York, but there was an 11th IKEF, which was a splinter group from KLAW (not the 4th Fleet). I think that FASA might have mentioned IKEF as a division of the Klingon forces, which means there are likely more folks out there using the name.

Well, I'll have to then...

Although it is not an official (as far as I know) abbreviation, KK is missing for Khemorex Klinzhai  Smiley
Maybe we are too proud to abbreviate? Wink

Oh, and in terms and abbreviations, KGT seems to be missing (Klingon for the Galactic Traveler.

Also, although I tend to make up my own general abbrevs, ROTFLASTC is older than my internet presence, I think.
One I made up myself is (capitalisation is important!) WITNOq (What In The Name of qeylIS (Kahless)

Nice list.

When I put the list together back in the mists of time, I was looking for abbreviations and acronyms that I had come across in Klindom and online in general that veterans might use and that a newcomer to the boards (as we all were back then) might not recognize. I’ve never seen Khemorex Klinzhai abbreviated as anything. “KK” is AOL/gamer/IM speak for “okay”; I think that using it outside the club would only cause confusion.

Soon after the list was posted someone suggested that I include “KKK” for Khemorex Klinzhai Klub. To this day I wonder if that person was serious. Besides, I am guessing that the word Khemorex is a variant of komerex, which is a kind of organization. So Khemorex Klinzhai Klub would be redundant.

I was unfamiliar with this one and had to look it up. Perhaps my cat has become too inured to the antics of two-leggers to take much notice of their emotional outbursts, let alone fear them.  }}: \

As I advised, the abbreviation is not official. Your reasons not to include it are valid. A pity that it means it is failing in the list...
Why Khemorex and not komerex, that's explained by Fleet Admiral toQDuj epetai jonwi, this aparently was a mistake at the start of the club. The size and activity of the club (IMO) does however warrant the name now 8-)

It is not. These are *Klingon* boards. Klingons are of the Trek fandom, not part of the Star Wars Universe (even the expanded one).

The point of compiling this list is so that incoming Klinfolk have a reference to consult when they come up against the many abbreviations that dot the boards. Klindon has been referred to as “the alphabet fandom”, and I thought it was only fair to give newcomers a fighting chance. “MTFBWY” is not something one is likely to encounter in Klindom.
