That which does not kill me, must have missed me.

In a private exchange with another poster I made a joke with origins in another fandom. It sailed over the head of my intended target to splatter on the wall.

This in turn got me to thinking about fandom in general, and which doms commonly overlap.  I have seen evidence in the Forums of interests in Tolkien, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Anime, the SCA...

So if you are a skiffy-type in general whose interests extend beyond Klindom, what are you reading/watching/doing when you are not practicing snarling in front of the mirror while wearing your prosthetic head, or snagging yourself in sensitive places while trying to work your betleH?

While Star Trek was the first sci-fi that I remember watching on TV, the first Fandom I was part of was Dr. Who. I became much more or a Star Trek fan through involvement in Klingon fandom. I pretty much will watch or read almost any sci-fi that seems interesting.

I did a brief stint in the SCA, I am no longer a member but do enjoy going to Ren Faires, still. As a matter of fact, there was such a huge SCA/Klingon cross over fandom in one club I was in, that the other Klingon clubs made up the insulting name "scafusions" for the group.

Klingons also lead me to paintball, which while not a fandom, is something I have done in a non-trek mode a few times. This is just what all of us need, yet another expensive hobby.

I enjoy any sci-fi, am not active in many a dom though.
I do enjoy klindom, dr. Who as a series to watch (and thus be clued to references, sometimes), Star Wars, older StarGate, Monty Python, Tolkien (fearfully underdeveloped). Not exactly SCA but I recently discovered LARP.
There's simply too many fandoms out there and too little time and money to enjoy them all... }}:-[

I really really really liked Babylon 5.  I thought the whole series was totally well written and w/ increadible characters.  I thought a Narn fan group would be cool.  The Centari were nice, but their hair brought me back to my 80s glam-metal days.

I also really got into Farscape.  Was pissed they took it off, now they say they are bringing it back but havn't seen anything for it yet....well Frell!!!

Stargate, won't watch it 'cause Dick Anderson is an anti-gunner and he uses them all the time in the show.

Havn't seen Battlestar Galactica (new) yet.

I was HUGE into the Anne Rice Vampire thing, even went to a couple of the Vampire Lestat Fan Club balls in New Orleans.  That was kinda fun, but kinda depressing at the same time, too many Louis' makes it a bummer.

There Are MANY Interests Out there For Me, Including Just about Everything Above... Add to That Gaming (Table Top RPG In Particular)... And You Have a lot of it Covered... I Used to Dig Watching Trading Spaces (As a Competative Sport), but that Started to Blow after the Second Season... As Far as Costuming Goes though, We (Many of My Klingon Friends), Try to do Group Costuming Efforts at Least Once a Year That are Unrelated to Klingon Stuff... (Otherwise the Klingon Gear Starts to Feel too Much Like Obligatory Work Clothes for Me)... I Still Have Many Scadian Friends, though I Have Not Been Active for MANY years, I Like to Attend our Local Ren Faire Every Year as a Minimum Rennie Involovment, and For A Couple of Years I Fought on the Chess Board With the Local Theater Troup that Runs it Here... (Until I Seriously Injured My Shoulder Doing it)... And I Know this Sounds Cheesey but I Really Enjoy My Family A lot (My Wife and Daughter), So A lot of these Things we do as a Family Which is Not a Hobby in itself but You Know... Other Than That I Consider myself to be a Casual Collector DVD's ( I Have Quite a Few), and I Like to Read Non-Fic in addition to Sci-Fi and Occasionally Fantasy...

I am quite a big fan of Stargate (SG1 and Atlantis) and have been to several Gate cons.  this weekend just gone, I went to a general sci-fi event dressed in Klingon gear where I met Martok and Gowron.  Unfortuntely it meant a three hour drive wearing my Klingon makeup although I did not put on my uniform jacket until I got there (I could not fit in the car wearing it) so I wore my stargate jacket to keep warm.
Inevitably the length of the trip meant stopping for a toilet/breakfast break at a service station so I walked into the restaurant in full klingon makeup, flipflops and a Stargate SG1 jacket.  I didnt half get some strange looks from people!
It always makes me smile the way people sort of look at you and then very quickly look away as though they weren't actually looking at all.

It was a good event though!

I'm a Furry!  Which means I'm a fan of Anthropomorphic animals in Fiction, like Disney's Robin Hood Cartoon.  Also why I have a targh as my Avatar.

Of course there is Star Wars.  I haven't made any Starwars constumes yet, but I do have a rubber Greedo mask I wore to one of the movies.

I've recently become a fan of Firefly/Serenity.  Though I really enjoy watching the show, I'm not sure how deep my fandom can go...  Since I can't imagine RPing a hyoomin, it's been so long, I'm not sure I remember how...

Not exactly a fandom, but also recently, I've found myself playing in a Werewolf LARP in the World of Darkness.  The costuming challenges this is pringing up is certainly interesting.

Maybe you are familiar with the phenomenon "Dutchies" then, as I know several of the Dutch SG-fans visit SG conventions in England (not sure how many different ones there are).
I know several of those Dutchies, and am an honorary member (due to services hijacked by them) of the group.

That's the best! I love it when people look at you that way. Never mind the lovely talk once you've passed them.

Yes, I have met the Dutchies several times. There was a bunch of them at the Atlantis convention in Bogor Regis last november.  They put an a pretty funny display of wraiths feeding on a SG team, the  team member being represented by an inflatable dummy which got the air sucked out of it as the wraiths fed on its life force.
That was a pretty good convention and will go down in fan history for the fact (and, yes, I was responsible for it) that James Lazafanos (the wraith) and Dan Payne (The supersoldier) took their clothes off for charity, right down to their boxers.  And I have the photgraphic evidence. (LOL)

Ah, the joys of female fans...

Actually, it may have been my idea but I would like to comment that Suanne Braun (Hathor) and Rachel Luttrell (Teila Emagen) were right down at the front of the audience, shouting "STRIP, STRIP" with the rest of us girls.

The convention, luckily was for over 18's only.  Fun was had by all.

Besides the obvious, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Stargate: SG-1 (up to season 3, then the bastards moved to the Sci-Fi Channel, which I don't have), Farscape (a few eps here and there)...but lately I've been on this weird Buffy: The Vampire Slayer/Angel place.  I've purchased first and last seasons of buffy along with 3-4 books--and, most odd of all, I cannot fall asleep unless I watch Buffy or Angel that just happen to air at the same time (7AM) where I live.  So, after my 10PM-6AM shift I come home and watch Buffy dust a few vamps or Angel chopping off lawyer's hands before bed. rolleyes
