Is there an official tlhingan Hol system of handwriting? Or do Klingons always have a palm pilot handy for jotting down notes?

There is more information on this subject within the following thread:

(Moderator's note: the "Bird of Prey Markings" thread was eaten by hungry spiderbots, and is no longer with us.)

Thanks for the tip, weslipuqlod. although i didn't recognize the answer to my question in those posts.  i wanted to know about producing Klingon characters with pen and paper as opposed to typed characters. i've seen various Klingon character sets floating around in the internet - but none easily reproducable manually.

Well I assume you mean writing pIqaD with a pen. It can be done but it doesn't look very good. Serveral people have come up with systems for doing it, but since they are all different none of them have really stuck.

So you basically have two choices:
1) Use the Roman letters, thats why we have them Smiley
2) Make up your own system based on what others have done (or not based, up to you). Only you will be able to read it, but it'll give you what you want.

I found a Klingon font which can be written by hand fairly well and is recogizable as the "standard" KLI font.

sorry for drudging up this old thread, but perhaps if something acceptable isn't "discovered" or agreed upon, perhaps something akin to the fashion after which Hebrew is written by "standard" pens could be used; a Klingon Kursive, for instance.

I wouldn't mind working on a "cursive" form of pIqaD myself, if there is interest. Being a calligrapher by art and trade, it'd be a nifty project for me.

There is nothing wrong with pulling up old threads when you have something to add.  This is animportant topic.   I know Betty Bigelow has her own Klingon calligraphy system that she teaches at cons.   I think it would be incredible to see a professional Calligraphy artist take a crack at this.

Spiffy. I'll break out my pens and brushes, some parchment, and brush up on my Klingon and Hebrew (for cursive), and maybe even a few others for comparison, and see what I can come up with. Might take me a while, but it'd be a fun side project.
