Klingon Interpreter Needed In Oregon...

Found this on a news site that I read occasionally..
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/1...5254&mode=flat& tid=188&tid=133&tid=129&tid=186
----------------------------------------------
"CNN has a report of a position available for an Klingon-English interpreter by a mental health office in Oregon (how apropos). Could this be the start of the next hot job market (perhaps they'll need Nebari-English interpreters next)?" Wink

Qapla'!

About that job...

The parental unit recently retired from 15 years as a high-level mucky-muck with Multnomah County Social and Aging Services (Portland, OR) -- your potential new employer. I read her the article and asked, "WTF?"

As soon as she was able to stop laughing, she fervently denied any knowlege of the specifics ("It wasn't my department!"), and explained that such a translator is not hired per se but put on an on-call list. There are no full-time interpreters, only those hired as contract labor on an as-needed basis. There's an update over here.

So while any of you Portland-area Hol speakers might conceivably eventually pick up some pizza money, it won't help with the rent.

Sorry, people. It's mighty hard to make any money where anything Trek is concerned, even where Paraborg hasn't had everything locked up.

Hmph. I wonder if even now P'Borg is planning on sending a cease-and-desist letter to Multnomah County... angry

tmk1000 -- was the SNL episode to which you refer the one featuring Shatner's now-infamous "Get A Life!" speech? Though many Trek fans took personal offense, I thought it was great. I have it on tape (somewhere...)

Did anyone watch last week's episode of "ER"? It is a program I  rarely watch, but I had recorded something on earlier and left the tape running.

Anyway.  A med student was doing a psych rotation that involved conducting group therapy sessions. One of the patients in the group would speak nothing but Klingon. The student learned a few bits of (what may have been) tlhIngan Hol to get the patient's attention.

"Reality TV" with a twist. Multnomah County SAS is never going to live this down... }}>:-)

I do not know enought of the Hol to know whether the words spoken were legitimate or not, let alone what they may have meant. It was several months ago... I shall keep my ears primed for rerun promos. If I can get it on tape I will transpose the dialog and post it in the hopes that someone here can answer your questions.
