question/ disscussion.
For my imperial watch fleet, I was thinking of including some light brown BOP's as watch BOP's.
I was thinking this to maybe diversify the fleet structures, with subtile differences in BOP makeup.
Thought? feelings?
There will also be a mysterious Black BOP that will symbolise the famed and feared lost bird of the black fleet near Mereth.

Although they have never had different color BOP's in the shows, I see no problem with doing it with your realm.
However, in most military planes of today, they arn't painted for specific duty (ex. tankers-red, carries-blue, fighters-green) they tend to be painted for theatre of operations specific. I grew up near an Air Force Base and the A-10 Warthogs were all green camo until Desert Storm, when many were painted tan for desert. So it would be highely illogical to put a tan A-10 in say a European area as it would be to put a green camo in Iraq. Not that it doesn't happen, I'm just saying.
I know the exceptions are the spy planes for this rule, but all rules have an exception...except that one.

tilk,
While I Agree with Kallen on the Real World Considerations for Paint Schemes, it seems to me that in this Case, the Vessels are Not really likely to "Need" Camoflage in Space, Especially with Cloaking Devices in the Mix... Anyway, I have Never Heard an Explanation For the Grey or Green Colors... It seems certainly Logical that Individual Families, or Possibly "Special" Ops or Other Elite Units Might Have Distinctive Colors?

The my cynical side tells me that the model makers used whatever color they had laying around. But the fanish side, which carries more weight in these matters likes the idea of the colors meaning something.
I have heard for years about Klingon privateers, I have heard Kruge refered to as one. Perhaps the colors are Imperial vs Independant ships. If that was the case, then some special or elite unit within the Imperial forces might just have a different color. Your theory is at least as valid as anyone elses, and in the lack of anything canon I supposed your theory becomes that much more valid.

The Idea I was tossing around(as a means of trying to develop the klingon world for entertainment value) was to look at having different colour BOP dependant upon the fleet it was assigned to.
I dont know if there are many different fleets in the empire, but say there was (hypothetically) A chancellor's fleet(outside federation = green), imperial watch fleet(internal security = Lt brown), black fleet(dead fleet of stovoKor= = Black)...
Its just an Idea I am just throwing out there.
appreciate the feed back. thanks

Although I would venture that few if any living have seen a black ship, your theory could explain why the Black Fleet is called that. Since Black doesn't have all the negative conotations to a Klingon it does in English perhaps the name is a literal term meaning the color of the fleet and not just a fleet of mourning. Of course if this is the case, then the concept is probably older than spaceflight, with the possibility of ocean going craft being painted different colors also. I like it.

I first learned of the existance of the fabled black fleet, from an audio book I listened to from Gowron himself. Yes gowron himself spoke of the ledgend of the black fleet and how the honored dead travel within the fleet once they had travelled the river of blood.
So we raise the question
ARE klingons supersticious?
For my approach, they (Or some) may be. And it is indeed the sighting of the lost BOP from the black fleet that is seen in certain parts of the empire, striking fear into all that see it. But as soon as it is seen.. It vanishes.
Most who are wize, do not venture into that sector.

Wow... I have Not Seen that Flick in a Looong Time... It was Available at some Point On DVD but I never Got around to Grabing it up... <Chuckle>....Anyway, it is Clear to me (As a Human, Who Plays at Being a Klingon), that a Yellow Ship, would be the Ship that the Dishonored and Cowardly Ride to meet the veqlargh (Fek'lhr)...? Course Just as Black Has Different Significance to a Klingon than it would For a Human, So Would Yellow...

OK, now I am feeling old. It was a TAXI reference. Prior to being Kruge, Christopher Lloyd was Reverend Jim Ignatowski on TAXI. He was originally asking what a yellow light meant while he was taking his driving test. Eaqch time the other drivers told him to slow down, he did...by slowly repeating "What does a yellow light mean"?
Ok, it was a bad joke, but I had to do it.

Getting back to the original intent of this thread w/out the crappy Taxi refrences...
Instead of the whole BOP being colored, what if the wing sections were the only colored part. That way, all BOPs would be that favored green color but w/ say, red=fighter, blue=freighter, etc.
That, at least to me, would make more sense that warping around in a purple BOP.
BTW...I remember that episode of Taxi...one shining moment in a lackluster series...well, the one where Kruge gets addicted to Pac-Man and is paid in quarters.

this is the colour sceme I think I will try first. I may develop it to be more weathered than this, but in my opinion, its the best I have seen.

Ok... Firstly... Yes Taxi May be Off Topic... BUT it was actually a Very Fine Show... AS SITCOMS ON COMERCIAL TELEVISION GO... (I Needed to Stress that Bit, Because ALL T.V. Bites in my Less than Humble Opinion)... In Any Event I do Not Remember that Particular Episode...
Ok... Back on Topic...<Grin>....
The Idea of having Basic Military Colors for the Hull, and then Having Uniquely recognizeable Logo's or Pin Striping or Whatever might not be a Bad way to Go... Especially if they were Described as Being in Unobtrusive places on the Hull, or Wings that might not be Seen From a Distance... (Hence the Shows Miss them?)

check out the BOP above. that is close to what I am going for. At the port there will be mint BOP(no rust), and off colour ones. If anyone can send me a pipcture of the yellow one, I may even include it. Also there will be the Black BOP from the black fleet of stovkor.

Yes I Saw it... That is an Amazingly Detailed, Very Well Painted Model... Are You Saying that You Want Your Ships to Look Identical to That One? Or That the Areas That are Detailed with Alternate Colors are THe Same Areas You Want Alternate Colors?

At this stage(under development) I will follow this paint scheme I think. The first BOP I sprayed up in this format, I weathered in a rust wash and included battle damage on various parts. when I did some test filming, (I thought) it look realistic.
I will also be spraying and lighting 3 Vorcha crusiers. They dont need to be servo driven, so I may complete them first. I (at this stage) dont want to do them in that light green, I saw a CGI of one in a dark green and brown I liked, so I think I will follow that thought for the moment.
I will try to put some sample photos up soon.

Since we're talking about painting models now...does anybody know where there are some production stills of Kronos 1? I'm finally around to completing that model and would love to paint it as close to the film as possible. The pix on the box are way to small for detail, but does give me a good overview of the major paint scheme.
I did decide to paint the Klingon symbol that is on the bottom, unlike what it says in the directions...I mean, if it was the Imperial Chancellor's ship, shouldn't it be decorated as such.

Favorite Jim moments:
(Bobby is helping Jim fill out some sort of form.)
Bobby: "Mental illness or narcotic addiction?"
Jim: "Now that's a tough choice..."
Louie, regarding Jim and his new pet racehorse: "Get that ugly, flea-ridden, stinking animal out of my garage. And tell him to take his horse with him!"
Alex: "Why'd you change your name to Ignatowski?"
Jim: "Try saying it backwards."
(Alex tries and fails.)
Jim: "That's nowhere near Starchild, is it?"

This may come too late to be considered for the film, but I do not think that special ops or other elite units would have their own fleet of ships. By the nature of their elite status they would not be enough in number to justify their own fleet, and the secretive nature of their work would preclude identifying their transport ships and warships.
Rather, they would be assigned a general forces ship (and possibly a crew) that was either coming up in the rota for assignments or pulled from the area of space in which the elite unit was to carry out its assignment. I would think that this ship would be at the disposal of the elite unit or special agents. Perhaps literally.

never too late. I have re-written the script a few times.
Good news. I have secured a 600 sqm factory to use for filming/ set building... even though I am a bit off that, it is a big load off finding that.
I am seriously on my way with the servo pitch unit that moves the raider and BOP models through pitch jaw and bank. Just finished it.
My fibre optics for my models are coming (fibreopticstore.com), I have recieved my BOP positionable wing kit that I am modifying so I can remotely move the wings. I have just purchased a "feather" servo(very minature), that will fit inside the BOP model and move the wings.
Have collected alot of architecture pictures from various futuristic games that look klingon to me.
Will be buying materials this month to start the minature buildings. have drafted the BOP landing port.
I think I will hofully draft my first costume(klingon).
Have done a casting course for prop building and prosthetics moulding.
so busy month.
I think I will pay tribute to this poem, and place a Yellow BOP at the prison landing port. Will make people guess what it is for. One yellow rusted BOP coming up.
