Hail!

I have been having trouble trying to translate the phrase "Do'Raq Merash".  This is the spelling in the subtitles (and closed captions) on the Voyager Season 5 DVD.  It is said by Seven (channeling the son of K'Vok) to B'Elanna in the episode "Infinite Regress".  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Alexandria, and welcome to the Forums. I'm ngabwI', and I handle most of the Klingon-language related questions around here. (Not an official thing, AFAIK. I just happen to be the one to answer most of them.) }}: )

I'm afraid you've fallen victim to what most {tlhIngan Hol} speakers call "Paramount Hol".

You see, most of the Klingon spoken onscreen, esp. in the series, is not the Klingon found in The Klingon Dictionary or any other Klingon language books. It is generally gibberish, peppered with the syllable "cha", presumably because it "sounds Klingon".

I'm afraid, then, that the phrase cited above has no meaning that I can extract for you. The explanation given by Marc Okrand, the inventor of the Klingon language, is that it might be an unknown dialect, an older form of the language, a construction or vocabulary no longer found in the "modern" form of the tongue, etc.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
