Hello and greetings from Germany!
I'm a complete newbie to this forum (this is my first post actually) - and maybe my english is not the best... Wink

I do have a small part of a love song from the german song writer Bodo Wartke, that I'd like to get translated into klingon. The words do not need to be exactly translated (not even the number of syllables), but the meaning should at least be there.
I do not speak klingon myself, so I thought to look for some help...

The original is in german, but there are already over 42 different languages, e.g. brazilian, swedish, japenese, even latin...
The english translation goes like this:

I want to sing in every language for you, (baby,)
and play on every instrument to say these words to you:
Believe me, it is true, I love you!

(German original:)
Ich will's in allen Sprachen für dich singen,
auf allen Instrumenten zum erklingen bringen,
Ich liebe Dich!)

The author wants to get this in as many languages as possible, so I thought, well, why not in klingon? I'd like to forward your translation suggestion to him to add this language to his repertoire...

(Still - I think I have to record the song part, and therefore learn at least this part of klingon myself in order to teach it to him) Tongue

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Mericet

Hello, and welcome to the Forums, Mericet!

My name is ngabwI', and I handle most of the request for translations around here.

It just so happens I speak some German (poorly), so I'll base my translation on the German original, as opposed to the English translation.
(Although, the English is really close.)

Quote
Ich will's in allen Sprachen für dich singen,
auf allen Instrumenten zum erklingen bringen,
Ich liebe Dich!

My attempt
{Hoch Hol vIlo'taHvIS, SoHvaD jIbom vIneH,
Hoch jan vIlo'taHvIS, SoHvaD QoQ vIlIngmeH,
qaparHa'!}

English:
"While I use every language, I want to sing the song(s) to you,
While I use every (musical) instrument, in order to produce music.
I love you!"

The last bit means something like "I un-hate you", the farthest thing fom hate. (Could also mean "I mis-hate you", like I'm hating you wrongly.) This will be close enough for your purposes. (I say it to my wife all the time.)

Good luck with your project!

Hello!
Wow, that is great!
Thanks, ngabwI'! I wouldn't have thought that it is possible, but you made it! Lucky you do speak some german - the translation is just ... wow! "Un-hate" -  is really great!

I will send this translation to Bodo Wartke for further use - and I will keep you up to date if and where he used it...  Cheesy
And, if that's not a problem for you, I'd like to mention you as the original translator for it and this great forum!
Sehr gute Arbeit!  Vielen lieben Dank und viele Gruesse aus Berlin!  cool

Best regards,

Well, thank you! I was afraid that "zum erklingen bringen" was something terribly idiomatic, so I'm glad I wasn't o far off. }}: )
