When a show of teeth doesn't work, bite deeply.

WWW
« on: 03 14, 2005, 02:16: AM »

Okay, Here is one of my older bios...  I haven't really had too much chance to think of what I'd do for a character for this RP...    This was before they imposed thier own template that didn't make quite as much sense for Klingon characters, so I thought I'd use this one.  Even though my writting has gotten a bit better since then.  I implied a lot of things that I should have made clear...

A couple of notes.  This was written for non-Klingons, in a Trek/Wars Furry RPG.  Which is why he is a wolvish Klingon.   Our template should read Subspecies instead.

If it makes sense for you to be able to break apart Family, House and Politics, please do.  They kind of all blended together.

This is just to give you a general idea and get started in thinking about how you want to write your character.  I'm sure this isn't the best template, but it's the best I can come up with at the moment...  Feel free to add or shuffle around or change sections.   But please try to address at least these issues in some way...

I am sorry, This really is a crappy bio...  I hope most of us to better than this...   I'll try to get my new character as soon as as I can to hopefully give you some better ideas...

Quote
Full name: Aspera vestai-Vra'al

Rank/Occupation:  Science Officer  IKV ghojwI'

Species: WhiteFang Klingon(Canis Sagitari)
Age: 24

Sex: Male

Marital status: Single

Place of Birth:  Vra'al Linehold on the central continent on Peneli(a planet near the heart of the Empire).

Education: Klingon Academy of Military Sciences on Tahrn-- Graduated without distinction.

Family\House\Political Status:  House Vra'al is a small house(75-100 warriors) founded by the legendary Fleet Captain Klythe zantai-Vra'al in the 23rd century.  House Vra'al maintains many old traditions, many which are even older than its own founding.  Old traditions can sometimes be considered subversive, as Klingon society and even the language is expected to follow the current regime.  Fortunatly, the current regime is fairly tolerant in it's views.

But House Vra'al is not stuck in the past, the old traditions give them a larger historical perspective which includes adherence to the ancient terran warrior, Sun T'zu's observation.  "If you know your enemy as well as you know yourself, you need not fear the results of a thousand battles."  Members of House Vra'al often feel the need to conceal their old traditions to avoid persecution in Klingon society.

Personal Background:   Played Klin Zha Kinti(kind of a battle chess game) as a child.  Was too big to be a Flyer, and was barely beaten out by his cousin Vhemen to be the Swift, so he ended up being the lead Vangard, but often filled in for other positions.

His uncle (Vhemen's father) was adopted into House Vra'al when his own line was labelled as treasonous after a newly discovered telepathic alien race had compelled them to attack other klingon vessels.  Because of this Aspera has an intense dislike of telepathic species8.

Char notes:   Aspera vestai-Vra'al takes his traditional upbringing and uses it as a tool in the modern galaxy.  He sees life in terms of the Komerex Zha(Growing-Structure Game) in which you always assume the other player is an enemy, and the next move is a trap.  He doesn't act like it all the time, but it is in the back of his mind.  Because of this he is a bit untrusting, and as hostile as any other Klingon.

“Subspecies”, query? ::blinks::

If we are going with scenario #3 (Early stellar expansion era- The Klingon empire controls a handful of colonies and maybe a conquered world or two, with may more worlds to conquer.) (are we?), and trying to leave out non-Klingons (are we?), then what are our options for subspecies?

Because TFR takes place within a military setting and because of the emphasis on "notable acts", I am guessing that this [system of honorifics] is primarily a military custom. I do not know what civillian equivalents there may be.
For purposes of the game, shall apply this system to any civillian characters? Colonists are less likely to be military personnel than tradespeople and their families (tools, livestock...)

I am sorry for the misleading title.   I'm in the same boat as all of the rest of you, I'm only starting to get ideas for the character I want ot actually use in the RP.

The above is intended merely as an example of the format and type of information you might want to tbe thinking about when creating your character.    In no way is this meant to be acceptable for the current RP.  First off he's a Whitefang, and we agreed no custom species...   Maybe "Subspecies" isn't the right term for it...   Perhaps breaking it up into two categories 'homeland' (not necessarily the same as place of Birth, this is where you grew up or where your body is most acclimated to)  and Physique/Physical makeup, what effect this environment might have on your character.   We probably should also have a Physical description to describe the most costmetic aspects of your character's appearence.

Since the bulk or my characters have been Live Action, I have never really put them down on paper. I can likely adapt to any template that we use. Homeland could be a region of the homeworld in a post Hur'q time. Although I suspect that the Hur'q would have brought Klingons to other worlds, during the occupation, so there could be a Klingon born off world. Come to think of it, the first Klingon off-worlder might make an interesting character. In a recently post occupation homeworld, I wonder if Klingons would have much formal education? As a subject race, would they have had the access to Hur'q schools? Do the Hur'q even have schools to gain access to?

Other than that I think most templates will be relatively the same. O lets use this one, as it moves things along nicely. As for other species? I personally favor staying with all Klingon. From what I read that character didn't seem all that un-Klingon. With mixed breed characters the differences are usually in special abilities, whcih are generally combat skills. Since we are trying for a non-combat game, such skills will be largely irrelevant.

So the bio template should look like this:   The lines without balnks on the end can usually be answered with a couple of words or a short phrase.  The others with blanks after them should be answered in complete sentances, or even a paragraph or three.  In a few days I hope to have an example more appropriate for this game.  My attempt at a character for this game.

This game is on hold due to lack of response.  The game was originally concieved nearly three years ago.  If there is enough interest in it, I would be more than happy to start it up again.   I still remember some of my initial ideas, so I could pick it up from there if we had the players.   But we would need you to complete the whole template.  You should be able to make up a name for your family and decide what they were doing during the Hur'q occupation.

At this point there wouldn't be a Klingon "starfleet", and no Klingon Academy.   The Hur'q occupation is just comming to a close and there is a power vacuum.  The oldest living Klingons were children when the Hur'q invaded, and Klingon culture was somewhere between "classic" era civilizations, like Ancient Egypt and Greece and medieval civilization.  Suddenly there is undreamed of technology in the hands (or tenticles, paws or other manipulating digits) of the Hur'q.   Now some of that technology has been wrested away from them or there technological advantages somehow nullified, but Klingon society is torn apart.   Consider this when making a character.

So little is known about the places and Houses in the Klingon Empire, especially the Klingon Empire of 1,000 years before what we see on TV.   We'll have to be creative and just 'make up' new things.   So for example you said your birthplace and homeland is Cronos, but Cronos would be the whole planet.   What part of the planet did you come from?  Was it a big region or small?  Was it heavily populated and urban or more countryside and rural, or was it outright wilderness?

If I were to adapt Aspera he might look like something like this:

Full name:        'aSpera zantai-vra'al
Species:          Whitefang Wolf
Homeland:        The pelegIr, a densely forested jungle wilderness on Peneli, a new colony world
Age:                24
Sex:                Male
Marital Status:  Not legally married (since whitefang wolves have no formal concept of marriage), but see family.
Place of Birth:   The pelegIr, a lush dense jungle/forest teeming with life, vegetation, herbivores from the size of a shrew to the size of elephants, and of course predators.

Education:        No formal education

House:            None.  He is kuve, willingly serving Admiral Qelnagh of the House Devotlh.

Family:            He did a mate and cubs before he was abducted.  He visits them when the Admiral is travelling without him.  He's told them about the Klingons and teaches them as much of Klingon language as he as can.

Political Status:   Kuve.

Personal Background/History:     Trained from birth to hunt and kill with claws and teeth and other skills a wolf would need to survive in the deep jungles of Peneli.  He was captured at a young age and trained as a house servant to Admiral Qelnagh to understand the Klingon tongue, act as a personal guard and personal assistant.

Physical Appearance:     Whitefang are half-civilized half feral wolf.  Their arms and legs are near the same length and hips allow them to use either bipedal or quadrupedal motion.  More details on Whitefang physiology

Aspera's fur is grey with white fur covering his chest, paws and tip of tail with Amarklor(or Dark grey for those that can't see the near ultraviolet color) patches over his withers(shoulders), back and a streak that starts at the back of his head goes between his eyes, then splits on either side down his cheeks and neck.

Char notes(Summary/Personality):   Aspera understands and accepts the dominance of the Klingons willingly, as most Whitefang kuve do.  He sees them as the new Alpha wolves, despite thier lack of fur and shorter claws and teeth.  While capable of remorseless violence, he is fiercely loyal to his master as long as his master continues to exhibit power, strength and Honor.  And Honor mostly because it is the Klingon's own virtue.  But also because it is that sense of Honor that he thinks stays the Klingon's hands from exterminating the Whitefang species.  Also, he hopes by being useful, other Klingons will learn how whitefang are more useful as kuve than a meal.

You can see that whitefangs are much more than just a list of combat bonuses.   Anyway, my character for the game would look more like this...

Full name:        K'zerza sutai-jurel
Homeland:        teSngaQ city, a trade port along the yuqal river and near the eastern coast
Age:                185
Sex:                Male
Marital Status:  Single
Place of Birth:   qISmu', a village a day's Sargh ride away from teSngaQ city.
Education:       Apprenticed under his father.

House:            House jurel is at the small end of the moderate sized houses.  Kurlan the epetai(head) of the House, is perhaps overly cautious.   Relations with other houses tend to be overly conservative, seeking to avoid taking action that will earn enemies, unless they are the right enemies to have.  This makes it nearly impossible to form an alliance on the most favorable terms, as the House that most needs allies to stave off their enemies are likely to be far more generous to the allies they gain when they need them most.

Family:          K'zerza is the son of a smith and an artisan.  His father died 30 years ago.  His mother is old and frail, but is much loved by the children of the House for her stories of the time of Kahless and the other Emporers before the Hur'q came.

Political Status:     The neutrality of his House limits their political power.  Their cautious outlook gives them a reputation for being unrelaible and indecisive.   K'zerza has little interest in politics himself, but the knowledge he has acquired of the science and technology of the Hur'q has earned him more prominence than he would have ever wished.

Personal Background/History:   Filled with passion from his parents of learning of new methods of using metals to form useful objects, K'zerza was amazed and enthralled by the Hur'q`s technology.   He earned the wrath of his parents and House by willingly joining the Hur'q when they first started recruiting Klingon workers.   With the endless decades of Hur'q domination and his position of respect and trust he earned among the Hur'q he was eventually forgiven and finally praised for it when he sided with the Klingons when the counter revolution began.

Physical Appearance:   His moderate frame is somewhat hidden by his jovial rotund figure.  His light skin is beginning to wrinkle with age and white hairs are mingling with muddy-brown ones.  His posture is moderately stooped but still forceful, though not as forceful as it once was.

Char notes(Summary/Personality):  K'zerza has a curious mind and a Klingon heart.  While he was young he had the aggression of a warrior, but wasn't as strong as many warriors, and was not as driven to continue the dull, repetitive drills and practice fighting.  Thus as Klingons were more and more trusted by the Hur'q, his service to the Hur'q became less martial and more intellectual.

This would be a way to add to my pre-qI'meQ history (so the forefather(s) of my House...) I will have a good hard think about this.
Please bear with me. I only have internet at work at the moment... My home connection will come back around the end of March...

No hurry, of course.  This has been on hold for a year, but it looks like we have some renewed interest in it even if it is just the three of us so far.   Is there any one else interested?   This is a wide open story that can fill in details and improve our understanding of a ver important time in Klingon History.

Yoda, did I scare you off?  Let me know if you have any questions.  Feel free to just make things up...  Through together random Klingon syllables if you need a name of a person place or thing.  Try and think of what you want your character to be good at, what they would be doing during the Hur'q occupation.  Think about it... The Hur'q invaded 200 years after the time of Kahless, when technology was probably right around medieval level, maybe some steel, but a lot of things were probably bronze, brass, and iron, tin and other basic metals.  Suddenly they are invaded by aliens who have star ships and warp technology.  But for all their technology, they aren't Klingons and their hearts while agressive and expansionistic are not as pure as Klingons.  So it took another approximately 200 years, before the Klingons turned the tables.  Did your character work with the Hur'q or find some way to escape their attention?  If he worked for the Hur'q what did he do for them?  If he escaped their notice, how?  What did  your character do in the meantime?  Was your character a part of the new revolution?  What was his part in securing freedom from the Hur'q?
