I actually thought about this a while watching the relatively sappy movie Stealing Home. The movie is done almost entirely in flashbacks, but the main story is a girl dies and leaves her ashes to a friend who is a washed up minor leage baseball player. She leaves no instructions because he will know what to do with them. He doesn't really have a clue. The movie is about his soul seaching in order to do the right thing by his friend. Hmmm, sounds like a question of honor to me. Certainly not the whole movie, but some bits are about how to honor a friend after death. How to make sure a fitting tribute is done and the memory is not trashed.

Maybe I am wrong in thinking that any good story that features the issues of honor, glory, can help us build ourselves as Klingon. As long as they are viewed through a Klingon filter. I would not want to base a character solely on non-Klingon research, but I can definately see some elements that would benefit a character. Which brings up the question for the rest of the forum: Have there been other media outlets that have helped you develp Klingon ideals? If so what are they? I was thinking specifically movies but I can see that TV, books, ect. could easily be just as helpful.

the first and clostest to me would be Teal'c from star gate. He is definitely the warrior within. BUt, he has fallen a bit towards the softer federation lifestyle.

Also, Bullveye from the thirteenth warrior. that whole band are very klingon in my mind. they possess all things great for the mind of a warrior. expert strategy, multiskilled, follow orders without question, will take on greater numbers without hesitation. Each warrior knows there place. One absolute leader both feared and respected.

Wow, a reply. Yes I can see the elements of 13th Warrior. I don't watch SG-1 regularly enough to debate Teal'c. I was thinking more of non genre movies, where one would not normally think to find anything Klingon. Another movie that has similar concepts is True Blue. This was MTV's first attempt at producing a movie, and wasn't all that bad of a High School Football movie. It deals with chain of command issues, and when a team (think ship's crew) has to rise above a Coach (Captain) who is no longer capable of command, and win the game (battle) for honor.

There have to be others out there that people have seen.......

It Seems that Based on Your Criteria Many "Coming of Age" Films might Likely Fall into this sort of Catagory... And one of the Most Evident to Me (And One of My Favorite Animated Disney Films), is Pinocchio... Definately a Morality Tale about Knowing What is Honorable And What is Inappropriate, and Learning to Act Correctly in Response to these Things... Personally I Think that Pinocchio Could Easily be retold with a Slight Klingon Spin and be a Useful Parable...

As to the 13th Warrior (Which was an Enjoyable Film if Very Different from the Michael Crichton Book, Eaters of the Dead), Was Only as Klingon as Any Norse Mythology Which is As Much a Matter of Personal Taste as Anything... I Have Heard Rabid Klingon Fans Fiercely Defend the Nordic Connections to Klingon Culture, While Others Become Down Right Vicious at the mere Mention of a Connection Twixt the Two... In Any Event, although on the Surface the Mannerisms of the Vikings in the 13th Warrior Certainly Mirror My Own at Klingon Feast...<Grin>..., other than that I Think that the Story was Geared more Towards Ibn Fadlan's Self Discovery and Capacity to Learn to Appreciate another Cultures Values then any thing Directly to do with a Klingon Morality Tale... In Fact it Reminds me a little of the TNG Episode Where Riker Becomes A Part of a Klingon Crew During War Games... (Can Not Remember the Episode Title Unfortunately Though I Think it was "A Matter of Honor"), Which was Less about Klingons and More about the Federations Capacity to Train Officers to Be Tolerant and Observant... (Though Watching the Klingons In Action was Awesome and I Loved the Episode)...

Did anyone look at Star Wars Episode Three and see that one Jedi, who looked like he really realy wanted to be a Klingon, but was born into the wrong universe?   He was one of the first two jedi to die in an attempt to arrest soon to be Emporer Palpatine.   He died quickly, obviously he wasn't that good of a Klingon, or jedi for that matter...

I also do not watch SG-1, but the Teal'c analogy was applied to one of my characters, so Tilk would not be the only one to see the similarity.

You might find this strange, but when I was watching Predator. I atomatically thought of a Klingon. They are warriors, and have honor, one spot in Predator two, where Danny Glover killed the predator, they all could have ganged up on him, but they didn't. Because he fought and one.

I may be wrong, but I still would like to see those two go at it! Grin

I know what you mean about the predators and they happen to be one of my favourite non Trek alien species.  There are several parts where we see the predators acting with honour, including the scene on the train when he realises the police woman is pregnant and spares her life.

I don't know if I want to see them fight the Klingons though - I'd rather see them team up together.  Having said that, Qeytok was involved in a Predator/Jedi crossover - I'll leave him to tell you the details if anyone is interested.

Heh, Klingons wish they were "Predators".  I'm such a huge fan of the Yuatja.   Though it's hard to imagine how such a tribal culture developed that kind of technology, but that is another parallel they have with the Klingons.

I find it hard to imagine Yautja scientists , doctors and engineers, but they must exist.

Maybe they originally took the technology from some poor innocent species whose only mistake was to try invading the Predator homeworld, much like the Hurq...

Yautja doctors are much earier to imagine then scientist and engineers.  Both of the two Yautja that hunted hyoomins(as opposed to the alien hunting ones in AvP) performed battlefield surgery on themselves.  Although both used an impressive array of high tech gear, I think I remember one or both fiddling with the settings to get something to work right,  I don't remember either trying to perform actual battlefield repairs.  If this is true, there could be a number of reasons for it.  The hunters might not be well versed in the technology, or perhaps it is against the rules or traditions of the hunt, or maybe they just didn't think they had the time or an adequate workspace...

Anyway... I hear rumours that people will soon be filming AvP2 for release fall 2007.  We'll have to see how that works out.

I mentioned earlier that I would love to see the Predators and Klingons team up together - well, I've finally done it, or started it at least.  I won't post it on the story thread here because its a cross over and may not be considered appropriate, but the link is here if anyone wants to read it...

Kill Bill - besides the initial proverb on the US cut...

The film presents a woman Katana-wielding assassin who seeks revenge for the former colleagues who killed her fiance, guests and nearly herself at her wedding rehearsal.

I watched it recently and I thought - this is something warriors actually DO, in between the PG-13-rated scenes we all get to see. This is what fights look and sound like, and what happens in them, this is REAL LIFE, no frills. The graphic brutal honesty of this film mirrors the informational one of The Final Reflection. It does not judge, it just presents.

As myself, I understood where the warrior path can lead. I had not truly LOOKED at the end result of all the training (I'm learning Ninjutsu). It was a sobering experience. I will continue to train and, even though I hope never to have to apply what I learn to the full and final extent, I no longer see martial training as a "dance", or a "sport", or a... "game". It's real. The danger, both to myself and to potential adversaries, only decreases with advancement in skill and awareness which, together, multiply choices.
