The Final Reflection
has long since been the one book on Klingons I would keep if I could save only one book from being erased from time.
The fact that we trace one man through his carrer is invaluable, the galactic and interpersonal politics are also very valuable. The Old Klingon language is a priceless treasure.
Pawns and Symbols
would be the second book I would save. The Klingon gods, the politics under disaster situations, Kang and his son... The surprise about Klingon senses... (trying not to ruin the book)
Rules of Engagement
I think would be my third favourite. It truely demonstrates the Klingons honor, and desire not to win because they have a technology that is superior, but because Klingons in and of themselves superior. (I may be reading a little more into this, but I do that)

[My favourite book is " A Burning House" everything is in it, family, politics, betrayl, love, death and of course HONOR.] I pray we all die with honor, cross the river of blood and join the Black Fleet. Sail to Sto vo Kor and battle for eternity. Glorious.

As they have in mine.
I have a lot to read still, especially the older books. But the
IKS Gorkon
series is truely excellent.
Still, nothing beats the significance of TFR...

Friedman's
Kahless
is good, not great, in my opinion.
The Final Reflection
is the best Trek book I've read; it's probably the only one I'd describe as excellent, and the only one I'd recommend even to a non-Trekkie.

I have been meaning to check out the DeCandido books.
Does
the Klingon Dictionary
count? If so, that's my favorite.

For me Pawns and Symbols is my favorite. While Final Reflection will always be the first, I just got more out of P&S than I did out of TFR, even though TFR is probably what sparked much interest in Klingons and allowed for P&S to be published in the first place.
The Hand of Kahless is just a republishing of two very different and contradictory books.
As for new books, while I do like the I.K.S. Gorkon books, I really like the two trilogies by Kevin Ryan, the Errand of Vengeance and Errand of Fury series, even though the last one was rushed and basically a retread of Jame's Blish and TOS in general. Still I like the Errand books because they do a nice job of showing the transition from TOS Klingon attitudes to what would eventually be the TNG Klingon attitudes. I also like the espionage and Imperial Intelligence aspects of the books.
I have tried and not been able to get into the Left Hand of Destiny Books, but I will try again.
