This has been an idea rattling around in my mind for a while now. I finally decided to post it and see what happens. This is more of a game than anything else, although if anyone gets some real value out of it, then so be it.However this is intended to be part game and part academic exercise, and not related to any single club or group of clubs for that matter.

So let's forget for a moment that we all probably consider our respective clubs to be the best out there. Imagine if you could start from scratch and build the perfect club, one rule at a time. However here is the catch of the game. Each person can only post one rule. So think of what the most important rule would be and post it, oh and once a rule has been posted no one else can post the same rule, this way we will not be full of "me too" and "yeah what he said" type posts.

That which does not kill me, must have missed me.

A very interesting proposition. I lack a club and would like to design one even though it will never come to fruition. You would probably have to set down a few guidelines to build upon before starting in on The Rules, such as: how “authentic” must our club be? Bear in mind that there are many subcultures out there that have yet to be explored and developed, that specifics will vary with time (historical period), place, and the caste and social standing of each individual involved in this club.

That said, my first rule would be “No harping on canon precedents when establishing rules because canon contradicts itself on a regular basis. You could set your calendar by it.”

Next!

the most important rule for me is about respect for each other and preventing bullying and abuse.... Members must show the same respect for each other as they would like to be shown themselves.

too often Ive seen a good debate turn nasty (not here I hasten to add) because the various participants cant handle others disagreeing with them and people driven away by online bullying and nastiness.

I think the biggest rule of a club is to have honor and respect for each other, and understanding that not everyone will have the same ideas, or beliefs you have.

I also have seen clubs where bullies run it and then drive out good members and even whole High Councils who disagree with them just so they remain in power.

When you have honor and do the right thing even of it is not the popular way, you will earn respect from those who also see the truth in doing the right thing.
Well my thoughts anyway.

I set no guidelines (other than the no duplication rule) specifically to see where each person would go. I wanted to let Klingons be the sole judge of what is Klingon, in a sense. Remember each of us has to think of what the most important rule would be. Anyone can write a set of rules (some better than others) but to write only one rule, that is interesting. This is also why I made this a game and not some other type of project. I have posted this to two sites and plan on posting it to at least two or three others, but have wanted to wait a bit between postings.
