Well, that was my first post in Klingon.  Hopefully, it makes sense.  Anyways, here's the bulk of what i was going for:

"My name is reySIr.  I'm honored to be here.

I've been learning Klingon.  I hope my grammar is ok (sufficient).  I know i have much (many things) to learn. "

So, now everyone can tell me how close (or how far off) i am.   I've been practicing much, but there are a few things that i haven't quite got yet.  Certain phrases that seem trivial in english evade me.  But based on the other posts here, I'm sure people will be able to help me to improve.

Not bad for a first post! Here are my comments:

nuqneH.

pagh vIneH "I don't want anything". nuqneH doesn't really mean "Hello," it means "What do you want?"  It's used when one warrior approaches another; the one approached may ask the first nuqneH (If the approacher said nuqneH to me, I'd reply "for you to go away.")  Wink

Fine.

naDev jIH 'e' muquv.

This needs some work. naDev jIH "I am here." is fine, but the rest is a little off. muquv means "it honors me", so you've got the verb prefix mu-, which implies a second-person object ("me"), but you've also got the pronoun 'e' "that", which is usually the object of such sentences. A verb can't have 2 objects, so you've got to rewrite it. I'd suggest: naDev jIHmo' jIquv'eghmoH 'I am honored because I am here.' (-mo' 'because of'; jI- 'I-no object'; quv 'to honor'; -'egh 'self' -moH 'become'; quv'eghmoH 'be(come) honored') - the -'egh is required by the grammar with an adjective plus -moH.)

Fine. yaplaw' (yap 'be sufficient'; -law' 'apparently')

 Dochmey law' vIghojnIS 'e' jISov.

Change jISov 'I know (no object)' to vISov 'I know (it)' and you're good.

OK, i knew it literally meant "what do you want?", but thought it had become the defacto greeting among Klingons,  if only to acknowledge one's arrival.

Yeah, i figured this one wasn't right.  I was thinking of organizing per page 66 of TKD.  So i'd have two sentences, "I am here" and "It honors me".  With the first sentence being the object of the second.  I didn't think i'd have two object there.  Hmmm.

That said, i can see your reasoning with the revised sentence.  But I'm a bit confused by the usage of 'egh.  Would not jIquv'egh mean "I honor myself"?  Is that the same as saying "I am honored by <fill in the blank>"?

Doh!  I knew that.

Thanks for looking it over and for your input.  As you can see, still have much to learn on the finer points.  Glad that what i wrote was mostly understandable though.
