translation suggestion

why not translate "cats in the kettle"?
i am still leaning tlhingan Hol and  dont know enough to actually translate it.

I like the song, and even the parody, but I think that it expresses a decidedly non-Klingon attitude towards ones family. Klingons hold family and personal relationships in high esteem and the father in the song does not and suffers the consequences of his actions. Sadly passing at least some of his bitterness onto his son.

I suppose it, like anything else, could be translated as a purely academic exercise but for what purpose?

I love that song, I'm a big Harry Chapin fan in general, so I think I'll take a stab at translating it. It'll be fun.

Just remember that the refrain, with the cat in the cradle and silver spoons, etc., refer to a specific Earther lullabye. Translated literally, they will be nonsense to a Klingon.

Point taken about the fun.

The silver Spoons is somewhat easy to translate as birthright or possibly high birthright. The cat in the cradle i somewhat more problematic, as I think it is a corruption of the cat and the fiddle. There are many competing theories for the meaning of that phrase.
