Hello everyone!

I received The Klingon Dictionary about two weeks ago, and did my best to learn Klingon from it. Afterwards, I got a copy of Klingon for the Galactic Traveler and wrote two small programs: one is a bidirectional dictionary using words from TKD, KGT and the extra list from KLI; second receives a Klingon word and breaks it into stem, prefix and suffices (also breaks numbers).

I thought it is time that I start practicing more the syntax and look at things you do here (texts posted, questions asked etc.)

Greetings and welcome, ramonsnir! It sounds like the one has been busy indeed getting acquainted with ta’ Hol*. TKD makes for a very poor textbook, and I am always looking to add to the sites and resources list posted here to supplement it and make it easier for others to learn thlIngan Hol*. Do you have your dictionary and word deconstructor posted online in a working format? Unfortunately the Forum software does not allow for the hosting of such things, but I would very much like to see your creations, and I think you will find eager beta-testers here.

As you are new to both ta’ Hol and these Forums, I should caution you that while we have several accomplished Klingonists amongst the rabble }}; ) , some are more dogmatic than others when it comes to derivation from canon. Do not let them discourage you. As I wrote above in my unsolicited, less-than-humble opinion (have you ever known a Klingon to have a humble one?), it is very difficult to gain a working knowledge of thlIngan Hol using TKD alone. The more differing approaches and tools a student has to work from, the more likely they will be to succeed at the language that will succeed FedStandard as the galaxy’s dominant tongue.

Because of the way they are designed, I don't see how I can upload them, but I'll try to find a free host and upload them as web applications.

ramonsnir, my advice to you: start writing a short, very short story for practice. And post it here.
And try reading and understanding existing texts. As far as I know the longest text written in Klingon about Klingons is by ter'eS

http://teresh.tdonnelly.org/tlhorpuq.html

The Story of Klorax's Sons

It is fun and instructive.

yay! (both in English and Klingon!)

Well, I didn't find a free ASP.NET host, so here it is on my personal web server. Until I find a better host, it'll be there. A bit slow and only ~60% up-time - but better than nothing.
http://ramons.no-ip.info/ or http://ramons.dyndns.org/

I remind you that it was designed for my comfort, so I'm sorry if something isn't clear. Any feedback is welcome, especially if I have mistakes in the vocabulary (it comes form various sources, some weren't well formatted).

Try analysing jIjatlhbe'pu'ghachpu'wI' (meaningless, but analysable) Smiley

It means:

my "I-completed-not-speaking"nesses

Although it's ungrammatical because you only use -pu' on nouns that are capable of speech. Same goes for -wI', it should be -wIj. No words with -ghach on them are capable of speech as they are nouns representing abstract concepts and not actual objects. So it should be:

jIjatlhbe'pu'ghachmeywIj - my "I-completed-not-speaking"nesses

although I see no use for this word, it's like saying: my bubblefishysittingnesses. It's just random bits stuffed together. It may also be ungrammatical to use prefixes on verbs with -ghach. We have no canon examples of it and I've yet to come across a situation where it would work.

You should also check out my web based Klingon dictionary (http://hol.kag.org). It has a complete* dictionary and will break down Klingon sentences: http://hol.kag.org/?words=tlhIngan+Hol+DajatlhlaHchu''a'

*I might be missing one or two, but to the best of my knowledge is has all the words.

I know the word is wrong, I just took a random verb and prepended a prefix and appended few suffices.

I didn't know about hol.kaq.org . Really nice Smiley

By the way, I added sentence analysing (it doesn't really analyse sentences, so I called it "batch word analyser").

A Klingon analyzer already exists and is made by d'Armond Speers
http://higbee.cots.net/Holtej//klingon/poj.htm

I have used that version before and it really worked. Now, however, my virus scanner delets it as a Trojan.
I still use an older version, 1.7 , released in 1996. It works with prefixes and suffixes.

The webpages are out of date but the pojwi I have still works fine.
