Sadly enough no US cons for me so far. I still plan to come over and experience one in the mother country...
For now my con expeditions have gone no further than Scotland. I've yet to venture into Germany for a con too...

I once saw a group of klingons barge in on a Star Wars convention.Batleth and all, they beat up some people but were asked to leave.
They did not of course, they guards came and escorted them off the premises

Despite my normally surly attitude towards mundanes, that is exactly the kind of dishonorable behavior we do not need. Speaking as one who has not only attended conventions as a Klingon, but worked convention security as a Klingon, this would not have been tollerated. Regardless of whay fiction we portray, we are all still bound by actual human earth law, of the country the convention is in. Tresspassing and Assault are still illegal in most places.
It brings to mind a debate I had with my line brother about fandom. There was a time when Vampire RPG's were huge in our area, and Klingons were on a down swing. I asked why the Vampires were consistantly able to recruit when we were not. His answer was that while both had codes and rules, the Kligon code is all about behaving properly and doing the right thing. The Vampire code is all about being different from society, doing the wrong thing in the eyes of others. In a sense it is more attractive to someone who fancies themselves a bad boy. At first I was kind of upset that we weren't getting these strong willed folk, now I realize that we wouldn't have wanted a bad element that seeks to buck the system at every chance, like the Klingons who invaded the Star Wards convention.

I've been to some general scifi conventions, but I missed out on the proper Star Trek only conventions... Well, most of the ones that were still around by the time I was able to afford to go to them seemed to be focused just on meeting the actors and getting signatures and missing the overall spirit of fandom. Last year I want to a couple of conventions as a Klingon, I even helped put on some Klingon game shows and an Alien Casino.

Even though the cons I s\went to regularly were billed as Star Trek cons, they were already in the process of expanding into different fandoms. Part of this was purely commercial, and part of this was simply in response to the wants and needs of the fans. When the first Star Trek conventions were held, Star Trek was pretty much all the sci-fi there was in the mass media. Now we have a whole cable chanel devoted to it. Most fans like more than one show/movie/book/ect. so the conventions had widened thier area of interest a bit. You can still tell the conventions that are routed in Star Trek, by names like Shoreleave or Cruise Trek. By the Guest Stars or by the panel subjects. Usually no matter what else they welcome, Star Trek is always the first among equals at the conventions that were arround then.

I have been going to the Starfleet Ball for the last three years, in Bournemouth, England. I got out my Klingon uniform for the last one and was glad I did as I met up with several other Klingons.
We get some good guests as well and I have met Michael Dorn, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes and Kate Mulgrew there to name just a few.
The website for it is
www.sfball.com
the next one is in Feb 2007 and we are planning to get loads of Klingons there - so far I think there will be ten or twelve of us going for definite.
So, if you are in Britain, why not get a ticket. Its alot of fun.

...<Sticking out his Thumb>...
I would love to go to a Con in another country... One of the Kewl things about the flick "Trekies 2"... Was getting to see Trek Fans in other parts of the world... I wonder how customs would deal with some of my "Toys"...<Grin>...
I guess planning ahead and mailing stuff back and forth might be the best solution...?

I think the key to bringing stuff across here is communication. A few years ago I bought a set of kitchen knives in Spain and wrapped them carefully in my luggage (the bag that went in the hold of the plane, not the hand luggage.) I also informed the airport staff that they were present in the bag. I had no trouble at all but of course, that was pre 9/11 so things are probably alot stricter now.
It depends as well on what your Toys are made of - a batleth with a sharp blade might cause problems but a model disruptor probably wouldnt. I would suggest if you ever do it, get in touch with the airline first and ask them what their policies are regarding that sort of thing.
Regardless of that, you should come over and try a British con, they are good fun and more relaxed than the ones in the States.

I do have some stuff that I could bring to a convention, as a Klingon. The most dangerous of which would be my "Phoenix" knife.
I however choose not to.
I'll stick to my paraborg daqtagh... even the sound has left it.
As to going to cons: I've not visited a proper con in two years now...
I travel to club things mostly. Is enough con-like for me (although I keep meeting the same people, and there's no actors).

I went to several "General SciFi" Conventions as mundane. But I have gone to the last two Star Trek Convention held in Las Vegas, NV. I have NOT been mundane. It is Good to be Klingon! If you can ever go to any convention, save up and come to Las Vegas.

Last time I was in Vegas, Hotel security hassled me about my costume and said I couldn't wear it. Keep in mind if you are passing through a hotel in Las Vegas, your face has to be visible. This is normally not a problem for Klingons, forehead prosthetics and makeup seem to be okay, but if your costume has any other facial prosthetics, you'll really want to clear it with the hotel's security and if you are going to the Star Trek Experience their security too (since they are independent from the Las Vega Hilton and have their own security. If your costume has a mask or a mascot head, forget about it.. Especially if there are gaming machines or tables, security will be on you in no time, but even away from the machines, most hotel security units will tell you you can't wear it.
