"Threatened by a deadly famine, the Klingon Empire is on the verge of igniting a mad interplanetary war of conquest. When an earthquake destroys a remote federation research station, Jean Czerny, agricultural scientist, succumbs to amnesia. Stranded on enemy borders, she is imprisoned by Kang, the evil commander of a Klingon battle ship. Now Kirk must play a dangerous game of mind strategy to prevent a savage attack on the Federation."

Its a very good book. I liked it.

I have to agree, I think Pawns & Symbols was one of the best Klingon Books ever. First it showed a crisis that the Empire was actively working to fix, developing high protein grains, without the mighty Federation stepping in to make everything all better. Second it showed other Klingon cultures that what we normally saw, on one planet the women kept thier faces covered, which leads me to think there are many different cultures and religions in the Empire. It also had the mention of Klingon Dress Whites, which has personal meaning to me. The friend who recruited me into my first Klingon Club and for whom I just performed Last Summers Klingon Memorial Service, was known to wear white battle armor because of this book.

Tongue  Wonderful!!!!!!!! I have this book and am thrilled and filled with joy that others have enjoyed this as well.  I based my persona on this book.  This book tells of the heart and soul of the Klingon Empire. I think this is a MUST READ for all who wish to become Klingon or are one already.  Kommander Kang I have so many good things to say about him. I sure do miss him.  You can read on my created persona from my files in my house. The House of Kang.  You can find it at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/houseofkang
Feel free to come in my house and grab a mug of bloodwine.
back to the book.  this should be a mandatory suppliment to any Klingons library for self enrichment and further knowlege of the Klingon Empire.
A wonderful read if I do say so myself.... I based my life on this book.

I also agree that this should be required reading, it is one of three that I think are in that category. First of course is The Final Reflection, not only is it a great story and a good in depth study of the culture, but as the first Klingon novel it holds a historical significance that can not be forgotten. The third is Flag Full of Stars, which was mostly a Kirk story of course, but featured one of the best Klingon characters ever. He was a School teacher with multiple doctorates, who had served his mandatory service then moved on to higher education. He was assigned to teach human children on earth. Also he can from a family of farmers. His character showed more about Klingon diversity than ever before.

My Klingon personas derive heavily from this book and even more so on The Final Reflection, with only bits and snatches from other books.  This book shows us the Klingon Empire behind the military that perhaps no other book does.  I can think of only one other book that tried, but t was so action-packed it might as well have been about the military.

Audio renditions of Pawns and Symbols, The Final Reflection, and the EOV/I.K.S. Gorkon series would be glorious.

Yes they would, but if they ever do come out, sadly they would likely be read by Michael Dorn, the federations pet Klingon (actor).
