I've not been to a klingon meet-up yet.

It is 100% because there are "not enough people" acording to the website.  This, I'm sure, is a nice way of saying that I'm the only one in my area whose interested. --- Or at least the only one who has discovered the site in my area.  I hope that at some point in the not too distant future one of two things will happen.  1) More people will find the meet-up site; or 2) I will get a job and have to move to an area where a large number of Earthbound Klingons reside.

Until then the internet will have to satisfy my interest.  Sites like this forum make it extremely easy to satisfy my interest in Klingon through the internet.

Same here; apparently we have about 4-5 members in our area, but a Klingon Meetup has yet to happen because you need at least 5 people who vote AND confirm their attendance that particular month.

BTW, for those who might be reading this and don't know what a Meetup is; it is a website whereby people of similar interests (from Trek & Klingons, to cooking, gardening or other hobbies) can meet people with those same interests in their hometown.

It's a nice change from the Internet, as these are real live people that you can talk with in person, not just chat over the Net, or post in a mailing list. I've participated in several Meetups in other categories such as Web Design, Graphic Design, Macs, WiFi and such and have greatly enjoyed them. So far, there has even been one Trek Meetup that took place in Montreal...

Here is the URL, if you'd like to find out more about Meetup:

http://www.meetup.com

and here is the URL for the Klingon Meetup section, which you should also let your Klingon friends, family and shipmates know about:

http://klingon.meetup.com

There are exactly three people in my area.  I have stopped voting for venues because there is not point to until five people vote and confirm.

It is frustrating, I know.  It's like cons -- most of the Meetups tend to favor those who live in the big cities.  I have read the list of the few Meetup held in my area, and there is nothing that interests me.

But we Klinfolk are a resourceful lot, and have a tendency to get what we want.  To that end, here are a few suggestions:

1. Go to http://klingon.meetup.com/members/ and look at the "Top Cities for Klingon Meetups" column. Then get out your sector map and see if there is a city listed with 3 or 4 members within accessable distance to you (you may need to go to the library or post office for a zip code directory if the city/cities aren't listed in your phone book), and register again (you may need a different name) using the relevant zip code.

2. Find a dependable person in your area with a similar dilemma and a different meetup topic.  (Note: this person must be able to at least survive an evening with Klinfolk.)  Propose to this lucky individual: "I will sign up for and attend your topic if you will sign up for and attend mine. If either party fails to follow through, the consequences will be [insert something painful and humiliating here]."  If it works, you both may find new hobbies and new friends.

I think that Meet Up may have changed their rules about needing 5 people. I organize a meet up for a non Klingon group, and recently saw on their site several groups that appeared to have only one member. There were even some that didn't have any members. All of these looked like they were waiting for someone to step up as the Organizer. So perhaps there is hope.

Of course they also need to work on their zip code map, as it does linear distance, and keeps telling me that people from 2 states away are also looking for a Meet Up in my area. They also recommend locations that while close as the crow flies, would take an hour or more to reach by car, as they are across a body of water and the bridges are not that close.

*sigh* I hate it when people weigh down Klindom with heavy metal...

Anyway, you do not appear to understand how Meetups work. Go back to Lady K’Zin’s post of 01 29, 2004, 12:56: PM, the second post in this thread, and follow the links posted there. This will give you an idea of how the Meet-Ups are organized.

Since you are in Colorado, you may want to check out the most glorious House Veska, based in Wheatridge. They have a series of ships in the region and may have one in your area with which they can connect you.

I have modified the poll to allow people to change their vote, since it is possible people may attend Meetups after voting that they have not, or may attend addditional meetups after voting for a lower bracket.

This is an old post, but this pertains.

I posted this on the Convention thread about a Meet Up.

This is to let every Klingon Warrior (and Klingon at Heart) that there is a Klingon Warrior Meet Up planed  for the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas this August. You can go to the MeetUp.com web site for information.
Go to Meetup.com and search Klingon meet up, or this link:  http://klingon.meetup.com/121/

You can register on MeetUp.com at no cost. This way you can receive information. The only time you need to pay is if you want to start a Meet Up of your own.
