I've met a bunch of stars, from Trek and other shows. Some of the big names I'm met are:

Garrett Wang - Ensign Harry Kim
Kenny Baker - R2D2
Marc Okrand - Creator of the Klingon Language
Richard Biggs - Dr Franklin (B5)
Jason Carter - Marcus Cole (B5)

Just a few of the many people I've met

Well, I met Wang at the Indiana State Fairgrounds about 3 years ago, because Paramount was running a booth and they asked the local club to come help. I volunteered and got to work with him for a whole day.

Baker, Biggs and Carter I met at Origins last year and got to arrest Biggs and Caster and throw them in the Jail and Bail. Baker I got to talk to him and his wife at the signing table after everyone left.

Oh, big name I missed. I met John Rhys Davies (Gimli and the Professor from Sliders). He was a funny guy. I only met him breifly as we wrestled Bill Blair (see below) as a Narn to the jail and pushed right through the signing cue for Davies and crashed through the Decipher booth/area. It did make him stop signing and laugh a lot. Also the guy has lost a ton of weight, he was just plain skinny!

Okrand I met two years back at a local convention (fan run) and ended up acting as his security guard/guide/drinking buddy. By the end of the night Marc and I were buying rounds for each other, and if you ever meet him buy him a gin and tonic and he'll love you. Smiley

I also met Bill Blair at both Origins last year and the camp dover peace con (fan run) 3 years back. We got him to tell us a little about Enterprise before it started and had a few drinks with him. He plays aliens on Trek, B5 and other shows.

I met John M Ford at Galacticon two years back (fan con). He was a very funny guy and we chatted for a little bit.
This year I met Patrick Kilpatrick at Galacticon this year, he was a little wierd...
This year at Origins there will be a bunch of people, including the guy who played Sauron. And thats in 4 days Smiley

Well, thats all the people I can remember right now. I've spoken to other stars as well, in passing, but I don't remember them all.

One of my many tales to tell...

I had been attending conventions and doing costuming for about 6 years before I got interested in doing a Klingon, because I was intrigued about working with prosthetic make-up.

I attended Toronto Trek in 1991 as my first convention as a Klingon. In those days, a Klingon female in full costume was *extremely* rare! I did a masquerade entry in my new Klingon costume and won another award, which boosted my confidence in my new Klingon persona.

That night there was a big dance after the Masquerade, so I headed down to enjoy the party atmosphere, still in full costume and make-up. I stepped outside the dance hall to cool down and I came across a very well-dressed Federation officer (Captain Kerensky), who actually looked very good in his form-fitting outfit -- but still had a bit of rebel in him, with black silver-tipped cowboy boots instead of regulation footwear, and a small pierced earring, which gave him a slight air of a pirate rather than a Feddie.

In my growing confidence, I went up to him and put my hand on his buttocks and gave it a pat and fondle and explained rather boldly that I "liked a man in uniform". He was rather taken aback at first, but being human, he could hardly ignore the daring cleavage of my Klingon tunic, so he gulped and grinned and thanked me for the interest and proceeded to introduce himself. We both headed back into the dance and began what became a friendship that has been going on for over 12 years now!

As we observed the dancing, we noticed that the Guest of Honour, Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov) from Classic Star Trek had come down to the dance to "be seen". With much encouragement from my new Klingon male friends (who had been intrigued and fascinated by a rare costumed Klingon *female*), I decided to approach him with my new "line" as it had proven so successful... (I also figured that if I totally embarrassed myself that I was in full prosthetic and no one would know what I looked like in real life anyway.)

Mr. Koenig was standing at the edge of the dancing activity, with his arms crossed, watching the action. The rest of the crowd gave him room, not wanting to "bother" him outside of the autograph lines.

I approached him from behind and gently patted his derriere, with a subtle fondle thrown in. He turned around with his face initially in shock, which quickly turned to a genuine pleased surprise as his eyes moved downward to Klingon tunic's exposed cleavage. Due to the loudness of the music, I leaned forward and explained that I always appreciated a Federation officer in uniform. (I stood a step back with my hands clasped behind my back in order to show him that I did not intend to "attack" him again...)

I think he understood the "turn of fair play" from one of the Star Trek movies, where Chekov and Sulu were stalking the sexy female Klingon officer (played by Spice Williams)...

I also asked him if he would care to dance, pointing to the dance floor... He said "no", but then realizing how it sounded, amended it to say "I mean, not to this one!" as it was " The Lambada" which was a bit too overzealous for his age. He explained that he would ask me again later when he heard something more to his tastes.

So I backed off about twenty feet to join my Klingon (and Feddie) friends, who were astonished at my brazeness, and congratulating me for my bravery at the same time! I explained that there were some things that only a Klingon female could get away with... and they agreed whole-heartedly.

Mr. Koenig turned to me a few songs later and gestured for me to join him on the floor -- the song playing? "Jailhouse Rock" by Elvis Presley.

Well, he can dance pretty well for an older gentleman (and this was 12 years ago), but it can get pretty hot for a Klingon gal dancing in full vinyl and heavy mink fur sleeves, so about halfway through, I nodded to some fellow Klingons on the dance floor with me, and they proceeded to rip off the (detacheable) sleeves for me simultaneously, and throw them to our friends in the sidelines. I guess it looked very impressive, because everyone, including Koenig, just had huge grins and were shaking their heads in disbelief...

Koenig thanked me for the dance, saying it was one that he was "unlikely to forget". Needless to say, we Klingons were the hit of the dance, and surprisingly enough, even in our much heavier outfits, outlasted the Feddies in their PJs on the dance floor, and were the last to leave the dance in the wee hours.

What a way to start my first day as a Klingon!!!

I'll try to pop in and trade more tales of my adventures with celebrities again in the future, as I have an awful lot of them...

I have had the opportunity to meet three from the universe of Star Trek: Michael Dorn, James Doohan, and Marc Okrand.

Dorn and Doohan were at different small-town sci-fi conventions and Okrand was while I attended the KLI qep'a' in Las Vegas.

At my very first convention, TNG had just ended its run...Dorn was as stiff and rigid as he is as Worf.  He did not interact much with those in attendance and while he shared a few amusing anecdotes from filming TNG and illustrated his hatred for gifts of prune juice, there was really nothing remarkable about this event.

The most humourous instance was when Dorn first appeared on stage and the entire front row of fully uniformed Klingons jumped to their feet and with military precision thumped their fists to their chests and barked out loudly, "Hyperkeratosis'!  Dorn smiled, shook his head, then chastised the room; reciting the 1st Rule of Conventions - "participants can not be funnier than the guest."

He spoke for approximately 30-minutes then charged $10 just to get his autograph.

My second convention, Doohan's appearance, was extremly memorable.  He presented a rich history of Star Trek production insights along with fantastic behind the scenes tidbits.  You can tell how much he loves his fans and the pride he exhibits in the role of Scotty.  Doohan also discussed his military service and his experiences storming the beach on D-Day in WWII during which he came under intense enemy fire and was wounded, losing his fingers and still carrying shrapnel in him to this day.

A great story was when Doohan talked about when he and his wife suddenly discovered they were having another baby, totally surprised and without warning, concerned of their age, in true Scotty fashion he remarked how it was nice to know he still had a few dilithium crystals in the old warp drive.

He talked for well over an hour and answered questions for almost another hour, then freely gave out his autograph.  He did limit the autograph to one per person, asking that we donate $10 to a charity if we wanted more than one.  I had him autograph the engineering section of my 1st edition Star Fleet Technical Manual.

Meeting Okrand was like mingling with a friend at a mutal party.  Many of those in attendance were in competition for his attention yet he made certain that he was available to all.  I enjoyed a nice conversation with him, discussing how he started constructing the Klingon Language from the few words that James Doohan created for ST:TMP.  We talked the most about how his, at first, small assignment for some extra bucks had turned into an unbelievable cult phenomenon, and the fact that it still had not sunk in with him.

Before the night was over I had him autograph my 1st edition printing of the Klingon Dictionary, free of charge, right next to my $10 autograph of Michael Dorn.

Way back when.....I was in a Klingon club that provided security at conventions. The first time we had Dorn as a guest, he acted like a scared child, affraid that he might be touched by one of those icky fans. He complained that we didn't have a line of people in front of the stage, and then yelled into the microphone for more security because someone wanted to bring him a gift. He then refused to do ANY autographs, and left. The next time little had changed except that he would sign free autographs for only one hour. We were able to get more people through that autograph line than I thought possible. It wasn't pretty or friendly and for the life of me I don't know how we did it, but some of us still view it as a victory against worf/dorn that we were able to help our fellow fans get this rare autograph.

Only met one ST star, but it was the gorgeous Nichelle Nichols, so I think that counts double.  I guess "meet" is a technical term. She was signing at a Con in Boston in the summer of 2002, and she signed a picture I had bought, and I took a picture of her, and chatted with her for a short bit.  Billy Dee Williams was there too. I've also met a large number of the stars of Farscape. That's about it.

Greetings.

I am new to this forum but this topic caught my attention.  I work security as a Klingon at the conventions here in Tulsa, Ok.  and have had the privilidge to meet a few Star Trek stars.

Last year I got to meet Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, Walter Koenig, George Takai, Dominic Keating, Richard Herd, Billy Green (Gorn Captain, TOS), to name a few.

I also had the priviledge of being personal body guard for Walter Koenig, Leonard Nimoy, and Dominic Keating.

I also have met James Doohan, Richard Picardo, and Vaughn Armstrong.

I gained a bit of fame by doing the Klingon Death Yell with Vaughn Armstrong in the middle of the Tulsa Expo Center.

Greetings,

I have had the distinct honor of attending a Day of Honor ( in San Diego) in which J.G. and his daughter celebrated with us in 2002.

During the Nemesis Premiere, Grace Lee joined us for most of the day.

I have been able to meet a few of the actors who have been part of Trek over the last 39 years, and a few people from other sci-fi series. My very first meeting was with Wil Weaton at a signing that he did in West Edmonton Mall one September. He was there for a back-to-school special thing that the mall was doing. He signed autographs for over 5 hours. That was also where I met my first Trek fan-club member, and got involved in that side of things.

I got to meet  Mark Lenard at one of the very last conventions that he did before he passed away. He was quite genial and answered questions for more than 2 hours. He didn't charge for his autograph, which I thought was nice. I got him to sign my hardcover of Sarek and my S.T. Encyclopedia. I got my picture taken with him as well.

After that, I met Richard Hatch (Capt. Apollo from Battlestar Galactica). He was an awesome guest. I got to sing with him and I offered him a massage (Certified Therapist). He accepted the offer and I worked on him for about 45 minutes while he continued to sign autographs. We chatted all the while, and convinced him to come down to the dance that evening. When he came to the dance, he was on the floor just as much as the rest of us Klingons were, until his ankle gave out. He also got involved in the proposal that a friend of mine did to his g/f. The couple were on the stage and Richard came up with a dozen roses, handed them to my friend and then proposed to his g/f. I thought that was soooo cool of him to do. Lou Ferrigno was also at that convention, but he didn't have much to do with anyone b/c he was very ill.

At another convention, Annika Wells (from Dr. Who) and Mira Furlan (Babylon 5) were there, but we didn't see much of Mira. Annika did a one-person show, doing a scene from A Mid-Summer Night's Dream, the Titania monologue. She also got involved with the fans quite a bit, outside of signing autographs. We put on quite a spectacle of a Klingon Wedding, which Annika came and watched. She came up afterwards and told us that she was quite impressed with what we had done.

From Star Trek I have also met Jack Donner who played Sub-Commander Tal in the "Enterprise Incident"; Charles Napier, who played 2 different characters in 2 different Trek Series - Adam in the OS episode
"The Way to Eden" and the General in the DS9 episode "Little Green Men"; Lolita Fatjo who was a behind the scenes person on DS9, and Voyager; and Nicole deBoer (Ezri Dax) at her very, very first convention ever (she was overwhelmed with the family-like feeling that she got from the fans, even though she was taking over from Terry Farrell). I have also met D.C. Fontana (Trek scriptwriter) and A.C. Crispin (author of many Trek books) and got her to sign my Sarek hardcover. It is now priceless to me, because it has both the author's signature and the main character's portrayor's signature.

This last summer, I met Marina Sirtis. We played Honour Guard to her, and she was quite impressed with our costumes. I got her autograph in my Durango figure card, and my picture taken with her. If you had something of your own for her to sign, it didn't cost anything, but if you wanted to sign a picture that she had there, it was anywhere from $10-$25, depending on the photo.

From Star Wars, I have been able to meet Anthony Daniels and Warrick Davis. They were at a small, fan-run convention. Anthony was very funny, giving annecdotes about his time in the metal suit. Warrick was interesting as well, telling us how he got the part of Wicket, and how he was the youngest named character in the movie.

But of all the people I've had the priviledge of meeting, Barbara March (Lursa of the House of Duras)is my favorite. She came to a small town called Vulcan in Alberta, Canada for a one-day, fan-run convention. She did the usual question and answer period, then did autographs. She charged $5 per picture, but the money was going to local charities. After the autograph session, we got to talk with her one-on-one for over 3 hours. When my Captain introduced himself, she said, "Oh, I've heard of you." How's that for a shocker. LOL. We asked her to become part of our Ship, and she consented, filling out the application form and everything. We became her official escorts around the town as well, chauffering her from one location to another.

This upcoming summer, there is a convention in the same town of Vulcan (called Galaxyfest) on June 10, 11 and 12, which is going to be a Majorly KLINGON convention, and we are hoping to get either: 1)JG Hertzler, 2)Robert O'Reilly or 3)Mark Okrand to come to. If you're interested in coming to the convention, the website is: http://www.town.vulcan.ab.ca/events
The Klingon female on the page there is me, with my former parmaqai. We want as many Klingons to come as possible.

There are some great stories here... And I have to say that some of my best encounters have been with actors who play Klingons, especially Robert O'Reilly (Gowron), and H.G. Hertzler (Martok) both of whom regularly "play" with the fans, even portraying their T.V. personas at conventions, and seem to really enjoy the interaction...

I have met and interacted with a lot of Star Trek actors, but the brief story below is actually from an encounter with Rene Auberjonois, (Odo, as well as other miscellaneous supporting parts throughout Trek)...

It was some years back, and I had only just begun playing at being a Klingon. I was at a convention in Orlando I believe, and had dragged a friend of mine to the con, in an effort to "show" him how much fun the fan scene could be.

I was still collecting autographs at the time, (I do not seek them much any more, but not because of this event. That is a whole other story...<Grin>...), And my friend was not interested in autographs, but was willing to stand in line with me to get the "freebie" that came along with the purchase of his weekend badge.

After standing in line for hours, (literally), my friend was getting pretty bored with the whole idea, and just wanted to get it over with, and honestly had we not been close to the autograph table by now I doubt he would have stuck around much longer.

In any event, my friend was ahead of me in line, and as he finally reached the table, he dutifully dropped the picture he had of Rene as Odo on the table, and waited impatiently for the woman ahead of us to get out of his way... Freedom seemed so close...

When Rene was finished, he looked up at Patrick and said hello, as he signed the picture. My friend (Patrick), hardly acknowledged the remark and was already stepping away from the table with his hard won but little valued prize gripped by a corner... Now Patrick is a big guy, well Over 6 foot and a good 280lbs... But he was caught up short, and had to take a step back to keep his footing.

Mr. Auberjonois had a mischievious look in his eye, and was holding on to the photo tightly... Patrick, having been stopped in his tracks muttered something or other and not understanding what was going on was perplexed, got a better grip on the autograph, and tried to pull away again...<Smirk>... Rene held his ground pulling Patrick up short a second time!

At this point I was already laughing, and several others were starting to take notice as well... But Rene would not let go it seemed, not until Patrick finally made eye contact with him, at which point Mr. Auberjonois smiled and said hello again... Patrick turned red, beet red, Pipious Claw Red, and finally sheepishly smiled and said hello.

By the time I got to the point where I was confronting the unflapable Rene Auberjonois, I maintained eye contact, smiled and said hello with out such dramatic prompting...<Snicker>... And I thanked him heartily for his interest in actually wanting to communicate with us...

Now I know that many of the stars are going through the motions, or have other things on their minds. They have bad days, and lives outside of appeasing fan boys like me. But I have to say that after several hours of mind numbing, hand Ccamping autograph signing, for Rene to not only maintain his sense of humor, but to identify someone who was clearly not in the moment, and elegantly bring them back to it, well that increased my estimations of the man as a person dramatically.

And this was not at a time when Rene Auberjonois was some unknown new to Trek actor, he had been an established actor for many years before the creation of Odo on DS9... I have to say that I was rather impressed.

Who has met a Star Trek celebrity?

Have you met some star or other?
Please tell all!

Is this supposed to be a trick question or simply a method to raise ones Forum Ranking? How can one attend a convention and NOT meet a star trek star? Or was the question not clearly stated and you want to know who has hung out or conversed with a Star Trek celebrity.

The IKV Honor's Blade's room parties were notorious for star attendance and it was not simply star trek actors. The one that sticks out in my mind was Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi @ an Orlando Vulkon and the most recent was Vaughn Armstrong, JG stood us up, but Vaughn enjoyed the special bottle of scotch we kept under of the bar for J.G.

Anyone who has ever been to a con with JG or Robert has had an opportunity to hang with them. They will even assist fan groups with awards ceremonies. They are both truly to be considered Friends of Fans.

I remember hanging with Tony Todd @ Klingon Kon in Jacksonville, FL. THAT con would have been truly memorable had Emily listened to us when we told her not to run a Klingon Con on the same weekend as Dover Peace Conference, but what the khest do fans know. We also learned that Michel Dorn is a jerk when he was the only one there NOT willing to participate in the Rite of Ascension we held for Make A Wish Foundation, for him it is all about him getting paid. Tony did not attend either but it might be due to the copious amounts of alcohol he drank with us the night before and forgot that he was committed to attending the function. It is a shame we cannot share photos of these accomplishments due to bandwidth and a propensity to embellish by some.

My current goal is to toss a few back with Jerry Doyle. I find in him a kindred spirit and understand him to be fan friendly.

There are many more but I have to move on to other things. It is good to see more activity on the Forum. Love to see this kind of commingling in respect to general Klingdom. It may well boost convention attendance by making cons more fun and interesting.

maq'mang,

I was at that Klin-Kon in Jax... It was A Good time If Sorely Under Attended... I Had My Own Issues With Dorn, Well Not Really Dorn so Much as the Unfriendly Non-Fan Oriented Woman he was Drinking With in the Bar after the Cocktail Hour (Don't Remember Her Name but She was the Female Body-builder Klingon)... But that is It's Own Story...

I Helped You Guys Set up the Set for the Rites of Accension... I Know the Name Honor's Blade... (Vaguely)... Where are You Out of?

Anyway, Both Robert and J.G. Really are a lot of Fun to Play With... And it really Makes a Difference when the Stars admit that they are People and Allow themselves to Have Fun... Course It Helps if they are Not Getting Ganked by a Bunch Of Fan-Boys and Gals...<Snicker>...

That would be Spice Williams (http://www.spicewilliams.com/) and she played Vixis in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. She was great with us and I would personally welcome the opportunity to work with her again. You may well have chosen an inopertune time to converse. Despite what I think of Michael Dorn personally many women consider him an attractive male and anyone, myself included, may react poorly when interrupted while getting their mojo on. One must be aggressive @ times to be able to interact with celebrities and until one gains proficiency, they get that type of reaction one time or another. Shocked

My thanks for your assistance in the setup. That was the first time setting up that prop. We have gotten quite proficient at it since.  Cheesy

We are in the Quicksand Sector (Due to the large # of KAG ships lost in this state)

Reading this post brings up memories of both in “Party Mode” but what happens at a Convention Room Party stays there, right! Wink

Yup Spice Williams... And Yes they were In Flirty Mode... Either Way, I was Extremely Respectful, She was Not... But that is Neither here nor There...

Hey Have You Guys Heard about the KSG Planned for Next May (2006)?

I Know it is a Bit of A Drive For You Folks, But it Should be Worth it... You Can GO to the Main 4th Fleet Site for the Link...

And Darn Skippy on the Room Thing... Though it COULD be Argued that Watching Ones Actions While Intoxed is Likely Preferable to Having to Conceal the Evidence Later...<EG>...

Anyway, Well Met and Good to See a Fellow Warrior Occupying Sector Florida...

I met George Takai at the very first OK-CON in Tulsa Ok.
I got his autograph, and he lectured me on smoking. In those days smoking was permitted in the convention center. He was very cordial and funny, and he spent quite alot of time with me.

K'Gor,

George Takei made it to a Local Con here a Few Years ago... He was Extremely Accomodating to us, When We Asked if we Could Get Pictures with him he asked us to Wait until after the Autograph Signing was Over... We Did... And then He Gave Us his Undevided Attention, Really Hammed it Up for the Photo's... We Got Some Great Ones of He and the Crew...
