Hi all

New member, just doing a fly-by to ask a quick question regarding a translation. It's only a couple of lines, from the Klingon bodice-ripper tale "Burning Hearts of Qo'noS," as featured in the DS9-R novel This Grey Spirit.

The scene is some kind of grand battle between a male and female Klingon, which leads to heaving bosom and the afore-mentioned bodice-ripping.

The woman shouts : QablIj Hi’ang!

To which the man responds : QabwIj vIso’be!

Now, from other threads on here, it seems that "QablIj" means "your face." Therefore I would assume that "QabwIJ" means "my face." But what about the other bits? They don't seem to have been translated before.

Thankee-sai for any help!

QablIj HI'ang
QabwIj vISo'be'

Qab = face
-lIj = your (general, non-speaking)
-wIj = my (general, non-speaking)
'ang = show/reveal
So' = hide/cloak
-be' = not

So the conversation goes as follows:
The woman shouts "Show me your face!"
The man shouts back "I am not hiding it (my face)!"

Now you know the answer, why don't you stay? Bloodwine's on me.
Oh, by the way: you could have found this information yourself with a little help of the handy Klingon Dictionary. It is not expensive at all, and oh so handy for those pesky translations...  Wink

Lovely! Thanks!

So, in human-speak, it would most likely boil down to - "Show yourself!" "Here I am." Would you say?

I did have a copy of the Dictionary once, bugger only knows where it disappeared to. And funny you should mention it, but I have a nice tankard of wine in front of me as i type...

Without context, an unfortunate typo makes me think it looks more like this:

A weapons inspector asks "Where is your nerve gas?"
The reply is "I do not hide nerve gas."

Qab is actually theragen, a Klingon nerve poison.
The word for face is qab with a lowercase q.

The KIDC is allied with Powell’s Books, which gives the KIDC a small cut on all referred purchases and bulk discounts on large orders. As of this posting they have two copies starting at USD 4.95.

Go. Click and order and read and tell us if it's any good. }}; )

I do really need to check everything I copy. I was told this 20 years ago in school, but it simply is true.
