Transcribing the schwa

    When transcribing/transliterating from another language or from the IPA/APA chart into
tlhIngan Hol, what letter does one use in place of the schwa? Is there one? (The schwa is that upside-down "e" in the middle of the vowel trapezoid that appears to serve as a default sound value for unstressed or mumbled vowels. I can't get my keyboard to reproduce it, but you would probably recognize it from the pronunciation guide in any English/Romanized dictionary.)

    The nearest thing to a consistant sound value I can think of is {I}, though that isn't close enough.

   When using the IPA, there are a couple of completing standards for translating to ascii.   Best to get agreement as to which one to use.   For example, SAMPA uses the @ character for the mid-center schwa.

    Oh...  You are asking about transliterating to tlhIngan Hol.  I'd use the same system that is used to break up foriegn consonant clusters, the I
with a glottal stop before or after it to shorten/diminish the vowel.  Worf -> wor'Iv

    Of course of some words that won't work, and the best think you can do is just what you suggested, promote the vowel to the shortest legal vowel, the I.

I thank you for the information link. When posting the schwa question I
looked for an APA chart to link to as well, but couldn't find one. At one
point (back in the 1950s?) the American Phonetic Association developed a
typewriter-friendly version of the IPA chart so that linguists could haul
said typrewriters to remote areas and record the information they got from
the few remaining speakers of dying Native American languages.

Now I have five to choose from! Along with some diacritics I've
never even heard of before! :-D

Is Worf not spelled wo'rIv? It would be wor'Iv when his name in DI'vI' Hol was Woorf, afaik...

     Yipes.  I reviewed my other posts and ...   At least I was consistant with my dyslexia...  I'll go through and correct the rest when I can confirm you are correct.
