Hello! I'm new. You'll most likely see me post in various areas. Looks like a cool forum.

Hullo and Welcome to the Klingon Imperial Forums. The intro thread is your chance to talk all about you. So what about you? So far all we know about you is you came across these forums yesterday while searching for Howto's for making Klingon uniforms and whatnot and that you enjoy Norse Viking culture in your Klindom.
What brought you into the Klingon fandom to begin with? What are you planning on doing with your Klingon costume and what not?

I guess I'm not accustomed to talking about myself so much in other forums I'm on.
For years I alternatively ran and played in a Vampire live action rpg, and I'm also a member of the SCA, so I tend to like a fair amount of character depth for anything I do. I don't have a history done up yet, but I eventually will, including all the major battles I've been in and whatnot. I'll also inevitably have a few knick knacks I'll carry with me, memoirs from family and comrades, and a story for each.
The uniform is going to be a smidgen difficult. I'm going to be making an Imperial uniform, and I plan on making it primarily out of wire mesh and leather belts painted silver. Some metal bits and bobs can be fairly easily cut from metal tape - I'm not sure what this is called but I used it a lot to decorate my Hot Wheels cars when I was a kid. That should work well for the metal on the boots and whatnot. Money being somewhat tight, it'll take a while for me to get it all together.
There is one thing I'm considering that may be borderline heresy... dreadlock hair rather than free-flowing. I only figured I could get away with it because Worf always has his hair bound in a pony-tail.
I don't really intend to merge my Klindom with Norse mythology, I just have noticed a fair amount of similarity between the two cultures and made a bit of conjecture on one based upon the other. I'm a purist with most things I do, so everything about my Klindom will be as 100% Klingon as possible.
My favorite Trek is actually DS9 (though I haven't had opportunity to see the Enterprise episodes yet). I like many of the various races, but I don't think any of them have as deep a surrounding concept as the Klingons, and I honestly believe that's because of the language created for the race. I also like to think of myself as a bit of a warrior at heart, so that helps. The Klingon group in my area has been pretty much disbanded for a couple years, and one of the previous members is trying to recussitate them. I'm joining him in an attempt to help with that and because it sounds like it'll be a lot of fun.

Oh, really? I'm playing in a weekly Werewolf:The Apocalypse LARP. I'm also a Furry and tend to create my Furry characters and their species with their own biology, history and culture based on what the animal means (mostly to the Western mind) as well as what research I find on the actual animals behaviours. It's fun to be insanely detailed isn't it? Heheh, when you have time to do it that is...
We can talk more about your uniform ideas in
the Klingon Costumer's guild
.
I don't think the hair would be hair-esy at all... We see braids at least in Star Trek III, and a dreadlock is really just a tangled braid. I'm considering going that route myself.
I wish you luck on re-establishing your ship. Where is your area? You never know, someone reading this might be local looking to sign aboard a ship....

I've run a couple Werewolf larps, and played in 3 or 4 tabletop Werewolf games. It's a great game, though I have no idea what the new WoD games are like. I abandoned them when they abandoned the old players. My first character was a Red Talon-raised Silver Fang Lupus. Very interesting social interactions, that.
Detail is a lot of what it's all about, in my opinion.
Anyway, thanks for the reassurance on my hair plans, I'll mention it in the costumers guild section too for more feedback.
I live in the Fargo, ND area.

I could see Silver Fang... In general the Red Talons aren't about to put the work into raising a cub just to left them join another tribe, but yeah I can definitely see them rolling over for the Silver Fang. Being an alien-loving Furry myself, I usually play lupus and play up the wolfyness. My first character was a Red Talon raised Red Talon.
He killed his mate(who apparently was someone's kin) and another wolf during his First Change which is about the worst way to start your new life as a Garou. Yeah... Red Talons do make for very interesting Social interactions, especially when they are out of their element in the city.
Yeah... I just won't play a character unless *I* understand them to a level where I know it's not "me in space", or wherever the game takes place... We have entertained the idea of running a character based system-less
RP
here on the forums, but have never gotten enough people together all interested at the same time, when I had time to run a game, so it hasn't gotten anywhere yet.
Well, I'm glad you are here. Look forward to discussing more Klingon stuff with you, and hopefully disagreeing. Klingons love disagreeing.

Welcome to the fray. While I am not around as much as I used to be, I do try to get here a bit and reply to others in my usual way. I like the ideas of the dreadlocks, I think it makes for an interesting variation that is not out of the realm of possibilities. For a couple of years I wore a hair wrap and beads off the front of my headpiece, and proably will return to that on the new one I am planning.
I like that you are not trying to merge the Klingon and the Norse, there has been enough of that already. There are some parallels, but they are not the same. Klingons should be allowed to flourish (in a non-vegetarian way) as Klingons and not as a pale copy of anything else.

Well... it was kinda weird. Our storyteller told us to pick the tribe we like, but also told us we were required to take a 5-point "Purebreed Flaw" that would cause some part of our lupine fur to be silver/white. Then in the first session he had the Silver Fangs come and round up all us "lost pups" and basically tell us we were all Silver Fang by blood. There was a bit of resistance to that throughout the game.
Anyway, very glad to be here discussing Klin-gy things!
