I am a newbie to fanfic, but I posted a Klingon-related story on a Star Trek Yahoo group which is where I heard about this group.

Beyond spelling Klingon, I am largely ignorant of things Klingon. I'm going to have to learn a lot more to be a serious writer on this board. I think I will lurk for a while to pick up some of the culture (both Klingon and of the board) before posting in earnest.

I think that the Klingons get bad press because the winners write history and are seldom kind when describing the vanquished. As we all know Mr. Roddenberry was a notorious Terran, the worst of the decadent Federation Races.

To me, Klingons are a mixture of Samurai and Spartan. I would not wish to go one-on-one with either.

Welcome to the Klingon Imperial Forums.  I'm Klythe, I handle most of the Technical duties to keep this board running.  Feel free to post any questions you have about how to use the forums software to Forum Feedback or IM them to me directly.

Actually, a fresh questioning mind free from preconceptions is very much useful for discussions.  Most of the regulars have been in Klingon fandom an awful long time and we think we know it all.  Until someone outside asks an insightful question that none of us thought to ask.

Ideally Klingons would never be considered to be a mix of any Terran Cultures.   They are aliens and they should have their own unique alien way of doing things.  The problem is limitations of imagination.  Structured Imagination is expensive and not many people are used to doing it.  So for the most part we do have to try to understand the Klingons in the only terms we are familiar with: Terran Cultures.  Klingons have also been compared to Vikings, especially in some of the more recent novels seem to be rehashes of Terran Mythology with the names changes around...

Thanks for the welcome. I have poked around and without trepidation, will plunge right in.
