Would a Dutch 'g' approximate the klingon 'H' sound?
Thank You,

The soft “g” of Dutch does not occur in thlIngan Hol, but is
close
to the {H}: say the “g” without vocalizing it. You are aiming for the rattling “ch” sound heard in German, Scottish, and Hebrew (among others). A letter by letter description of thlIngan phonemes can be found
here
. Click on the red letters to hear them spoken.

The Dutch 'g' actually sounds as if you're clearing your throat. In the south, however, it is indeed pronounced quite softly.
In the sound file you pointed to, the speaker seems to say: HaHaH. I think I can make that sound now : -)
Thanks.

Try to have foreigners, or Southerners like me say "Scheveningse gevangenis" (jail in Scheveningen) and you know who can approximate the H of Hol...

My apologies for the inaccurate/incomplete information involving the Dutch soft "g". It's the only Dutch "g" I have met to date. We were introduced in Potgietersrus by visitors from Rotterdam. I do look forward to meeting the rest of the family. }}: )

Hmmz... You think the people from Rotterdam have a soft "g"...
Wait till you hear mine or even worse, that of people from Limburg (no, the cheese one is in Germany...)
The "g" to note in the Netherlands is the Amsterdam (so Noord-Holland) "g".

Then do not try to learn Klingon, Dutch, Hebrew or Arabic. (Although the Dutch in the south don't bother, the pronounce it different from "Standard Dutch". Maybe as a Klingon you can claim to hail from some planet or region on Kronos where a dialect is spoken where the gutteral sounds are replaced by something even a Vulcan can pronounce.

H
shouldn't involve the throat to a significant extent. Both it and
gh
are made with the tongue, not the throat, restricting the air in the same position as for an English "g" or "k" sound.
The only Klingon sound that I think might irritate the throat is
Q
. I don't do it quite properly myself (perhaps my lack of uvula is a reasonable excuse?), being lazy and approximating it with something very like a "raspberry" made with the very back of the tongue.

When negating an imperative, the suffix
-Qo'
don't
is used rather than the suffix
-be'
not
