I heard this on some TV show a couple of months back and liked the sound of it: “Fire is life, fire is strength.”  I've tried translating it to tlhIngan Hol myself, rather than asking for someone to do it for me first and came up with the following.

"yIn qul, HoS qul."

and

"yInwIj qulvam, HoSwIj qulvam." = This fire is my life, this fire is my strength.

yIn = life

-wIj = my (Type 4 possessive suffix)

HoS = strength

qul = fire

-vam = this (Type 4 suffix)

Those are what I would have made of it...
One question to maybe fine-tune:
What is the one trying to say with it?

Good question.   I haven't given much thought as to the 'meaning'.  It's for a character on a SIMM.  Take a little spilled blood mix it with a dried psychotropic (?) plant inside a brazier and set it on fire.

Setting things to {Hol} is best done by first deciding what is the point of the text. Sometimes there are too many possible contexts to really start converting it to Klingon...

Looks like some kind of ceremony... Religious?

Klingon is not like Hebrew or Russian, where saying "X is Y" is typically done just by putting X and Y together. It's more like English, where you need something to carry the "is" meaning. In Klingon, that something is a pronoun used as if it were a verb. When X and Y are things rather than people, the pronoun is 'oH it, interpreted in this case as it is. "X is Y" is translated Y 'oH X'e'.

yIn 'oH qul'e'. HoS 'oH qul'e'. Fire is life. Fire is strength.

I have used fire and the mention of fire in many of my Klingon ceremonies. Mostly in the context of the (not visible/tangible) fire which burns in the heart of a warrior. I can see a quote like that being of great use when one lights candles or possible incense, depending on the ceremony. Strangely enough, I have all but abandoned use of live fire candles and use mostly battery operated candles, for ease of transportation and safety in public gatherings. Some conventions get really nervous when you start setting up flame producing props.

LOL, I can imagine.  Maybe you could just have it outside in the parking lot or something.  Smiley

Anyway, the idea for the quote was for a ceremony in a SIMM/rpg/interactive fiction I belong to.  My character is adapting an ancient pagan ritual from the Saurians (the species that brought the galaxy "Saurian Brandy") replacing what's missing with Klingon words and objects (i.e. d'k tagh).  I know, it's stupid, silly, but what the heck!  I like it.
