The
baldric and sash thread
has been split and moved.]
How about discussing the Star Trek Encyclopedia? I bought the 1999 version recently, and it turns out there's a lot of Klingon stuff that I didn't know, like the sash is called a 'baldric' in ST9. I wasn't interested in anthing Klingon until 3 or 4 years ago, that's a lot of ground to cover.

I wonder how many more threads will this topic create? The copy of the encyclopedia I bought is 8 yrs old, it's possible some of it has already been discussed somewhere. But, unfortunately, I don't have the time to search--let me see--"1,010 topics by 807 Members." Well, I'll keep posting here and see were it leads.

Sorry I did not post this sooner. There is a serach function on the boards. On the main page, look in the menubar and click "Search". Enter your search terms and then click Search on the bottom of the window. If you have questions about the search options, feel free to IM me or Kesvirit.
I'm not sure what was the purpose of your last post. Citing a source is important, but posting random excepts that are not in context of the topic of discussion is awkward. Please don't post random entries without forming them in the context of a discussion. If we allowed that to continue, this thread would start to look like a reprint of the book in random order and we could be cited for infringing their copyright.

My apologies. It was New Year's and I wasn't thinking straight.
Give me a couple weeks/months with this search function and I'll get back to you.

I too regret not having replied sooner to this thread. soup borg, I caution you against using “The Star Trek Encyclopedia” as a reference. It is riddled with errors. I have seen large sections of used word-for-word, often unattributed, on fan sites purporting to supply authoritative or “officially sanctioned” information. Unfortunately due to winter weather many of my books are in storage on higher ground. As soon as I get them back I look forward to discussing the specifics of the Encyclopedia.
Not that anyone else need wait.

I know that the encyclopedia is "riddled with errors" and it's also too vague for my taste. I demand details!
There is a great deal about the encyclopedia in regards to Klingons I wish to discover, since I only became interested in the culture in 2006!

So far I haven't found anything regarding Kang's Summit or d'blok on the forum, although I did find a few Borg entries. I wish I had the money to buy a mek'leth!
I still have many things to search for but I'm also a bit lazy because I haven't gotten around to making a list of what I'm searching for--additional information beyond what's offered by the encyclopedia.

the meqleH plans I believe are readily available, and there is no dishonour in having a wooden meqleH to start with.
In other words: consider making your own meqleH
I know that I'd love to make two proper-wooden (no composite materials) meqleHmey, and even a betleH
Metal requires a lot of money and requires a higher specialist level, imo.
* meqleHmey = mek'leths (-mey is the general plural suffix)
betleH = bat'leth

I took shop class during high school, but got tired of it after a while. Kind of regretting that now.
Well, I still haven't gotten around to that List thanks to a chest cold. I was too sick to even sit in front of my PC for a week. I went to the doctor yesterday and I'm feeling a bit better. Maybe I should get started on that list thing-y.
