Some time ago I made a Klingon bear and named him feklhr hoD.

Because he proved so popular, I am now making his brother and will post a pic as soon as he is finished. I learned alot from making the first one and while the uniform will be of an equally high standard, his hair will be much improved. The reason I am posting this is because he will need a name.

I have decided therefore, to throw it open to everyone in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

For £1 or $2, all you have to do is suggest a name. It can be any name, provided it is Klingon - canon, fanon or your own invention, it's up to you. (Its a boy, by the way) If you pick a name that has already been taken, I will let you know so you can pick a different name.

All names suggested will go into a draw and the winner will win the bear. The name is not predetermined and every suggestion will have an equal chance. I will pay the postage to your home address, wherever in he world that may be.

I am happy to provide proof of the funds being given to the charity if required.

Payment can be sent via paypal to ckebbell (at) aol (dot) com

Just to explain how it works....

What I have done is set up a grid and write a Klingon name in each square - the names of every canon klingon male from the show, approximately 50 of them. I also have blanks so people can suggest non- canon names.

As people choose a name, their own name will be written on the square and at the end, all the squares will go in a draw and the winner gets the bear. The draw will be held at the Klingon Banquet on 27th October 2007.

anyone playing via the internet can therefore join in easily - they just tell me what name they want and it goes on a square.

A delightful bear for a good cause. Well done!

The prize draw takes place at the Banquet on 27Oct, but what is the deadline for submissions? Shall we post name suggestions to this thread, or would you rather receive them by private communication?

You wrote that “I learned alot from making the first one and while the uniform will be of an equally high standard, his hair will be much improved.”  A design suggestion, if it is not too late to make one, is to forgo the hair altogether. Not all Klingons, on screen or elsewhere, wear their hair long and loose and foofy. And bears certainly don’t have hair like that... It is easy for smaller projects such as this to get overly cluttered with details, and omitting the hair would both give you cleaner design elements and save you some difficult work. It doesn’t need the extra head hair to communicate that it is Klingon -- the carefully tailored uniform and head ridges say it all.

Mind you, this is just a suggestion coming from someone who knows far more about design than actual construction, and tends to incur signifigant wounds when doing battle with sewing machines. }}: \  You’ve done a great job, and I look forward to seeing feklhr HoD’s little brother!

I would say as a deadline the friday before is the cutoff as past that I will not be able to check my emails before the banquet.  So Friday 26th it is!

I don't mind how you send the name suggestions. Here is fine or by pm or email if you prefer....

Kesvirit, I may take your advice about hair. I was actually planning to do one at a later  date with an eye patch and a replica of General Chang's uniform, and its also been suggested that I make a  girl, so will try that as well when i have some time....

thanks for allowing me to post this here....

I’ve sent funds through PayPal. Now comes the hard part.

A confession: I have a terrible time coming up with names. The following are the results of one of those take-no-prisoners late-night brainstorming sessions that often do more harm than good. To the best of my knowledge, the following are all Kesvirit Originals. However, seeing as how there is nothing new under the stars, I can’t guarantee they aren’t already in use elsewhere. I’ve tried to avoid the ubiquitous “K’” formations; I figure you will get plenty of those. Feel free to tinker with those below until they meet your needs.

Thank you for the donation, Kesvirit.  All the names you chose are in the draw.  I'm also going to use one or two of them in my writing if you don't mind - I've run out of ideas for names for some of my characters....

In the meantime, if anyone else wants a chance at winning the bear, there is still time to play.  You can suggest any name you like, whether its been on the show or not.....

Not at all. The names are unclaimed and unused. Go for it.

Kesvirit, thank you for your generosity.

Everyone else, there are ten days left.  the competition is still open.  Please do have a go, you never know, you might even win.  the name is not predetermined, every name stands an equal chance.  surely this little guy is worth a pound or $2 or 1.60 euros?

So how went the Name the Bear lottery? Did you have many entries? What name won and who submitted it?

I would also love to hear about the Klingon Banquet. Will you honor us with tales of the feasting in the Convention Reports and Reviews section? (Some of us have to live vicariously. }}; )

the bear raised about £90 ($180) and in total on the night we raised £1164 (approx $2000).
The winner of the bear was Ensign Kirsty MacLean and the winning name was Kargan
thank you to everyone who helped us.
