To all on this list, I greet you.

I just rejoined the forum after many years of being away.  I am from the almost decimated house of Rokta, as only four of us remain.  But that remains a tale of bravery for later telling.  As the only warrior, and eldest able female, I have been designated the head of my house.  Of late, I have resided on Earth among humans, and I now wish to rejoin my own kind.

In my other life, I have always loved the SF genre, Star Trek and everything Klingon.  I've been a costumer for over 30 years, most of that designing and creating the SF/fantasy and Renaissance styles, and I am a published author of SF/ futuristic romance.

I've visited the USS Joshua a few times and a few days ago was invited to the IKV Melota's annual formal Klingon Ball
this coming weekend.  I'm definitely looking forward to the event and enjoying Klingon company, hearty cuisine and blood wine again!

I do have other questions (like formal costuming) I will post to the appropriate threads.

Qa'Pla!

I am Klythe, one of the three Administrators here, my specialty is the technical parts of the forum and it's backend.  If you let me know your old account, I can merge the postcounts and maybe eventually old posts to your new account.  I welcome you to the Klingon Imperial Forums.  I am honored to acknowledge a costume veteran with a perspective that goes beyond Klingon costumes.  I recon there is many ideas from Fantasy and Renaissance garb that cross over and can provide insights into Klingon costuming.  And we are happy to share what we have discovered about Klingon costuming.

I've only been costuming for 2-3 years, I'm still pretty much a beginner.  I started with a Klingon costume from a patern hastily sketched from another Klingon's costume Cheesy Klingon Grin.    I desperately need to replace that one.  I mean it's not horrible for a first try, but it's far from polished...    Though just I'm starting to get into Fantasy/medieval and Renaissance stuff myself.  Made my first tabbard, Woo-hoo!   I'm a firm believer in starting simple and from pre-defined patterns first and then getting tricky with hacking your own costumes from scratch.

Glad to see you are active and getting out a Klingon Event.  Sounds like you were more active in Klingon fandom before, and are getting back to it now.  Out of curiousity, was it the invitation to the Klingon Ball that has resparked your interest into getting active again?

Me, I wanted togo to more conventions and such for a while.  Before I didn't have the money, once I had the money it took finally tracking down a Klingon club in my area to get me started going to conventions.  Now I go to 3-4 conventions a year.

Well met, Administrator Klythe!  It has been several years since my involvement on the forum, and regretfully I do not recall my old username and password.  I also had a different email addy (on AOL), so that will not help.

I love costuming.  It is not often I am so inspired by comments and pictures, and I'm thoroughly enjoying making my new attire.  The costume you made sounds fine and quite servicable.  Instead of making a new one, have you considered saving the extra cost and referbishing your existing one?  If it fits well, this could be a option.  You could even create a different look off of the stripped-down garments.  Tabards are fun to make, quick, and are so versatile!  And all the area you can embellish would look wonderful even if you just painted designs.

My first visit to the USS Joshua a few months ago actually got my brain out of hybernation, and I've been thinking "Klingon" and "Str Trek" ever since.  The invitation to the Ball just fired me up more.  Oh, and my battle gear is sooo old.  I took a look at it this morning, and though some of the pieces are missing I can incorporate others into a new one when I get to that point (after the formal stuff is completed).  The last couple of times I garbed for public events I was a Trill because they were last-minute decisions to go.  Even more of a time crunch then now.  There are 2 cons coming up in my area within the next 2 months, and I hope to be able to participate in several per year.  I might even join the local Klingon vessel USS Melota.

It's a good form of entertainment and comeraderie.  Wink
