Levek or Daktagh

Is it just me, but does the ceremonial dagger used by the next Generation Klingons is called the Dak'tagh, but yet it maintains the same shape and function, as the older Lev'ek.

Does anyone have any idea, as to why this happened?

Personally I had never heard of a "lev'ek" until I started looking for information on the Death Sting, I had only heard of the daqtagh.(Dak'tagh). The only one that has been used on screen is the name daqtagh, so I'm thinking the Lev'ek is the name FASA gave the 3 bladed knife. Remember, we didn't see this knife until Star Trek The Search for Spock, but I don't think it was named until The Next Gen used it. So Lev'ek is probably what it was called by FASA or Fandom between those two times.

Same knife, different names.

lev'ek was used in official Paramount sales collateral for STIII. FASA did not invent it. I still should have that... It amounted to program like what you'd get for a play, only with more pictures...

Wow! I didn't know that. Can you scan that information in so we call all see it? I've never seen that before.

The Lev'ek, is the prototype dagger upon which the daq'tagh was designed. At least this is my theory, the overall function between the two, is equal. The only real difference is the hand grip, the lev'ek handgrip is similar to that of a common survival knife, where the daq'tagh uses a more molded handgrip.

My theory is that the same knife is called two different things in two different languages, Klingonasse and tlhIngan Hol. Why they are both in common usage is probably because the official language changed whithe the throne (chancellor and/or Emperor). While official bussiness is conducted in one, the other(s) are still spoken. A knife is a dominant tools and weapon so it would be the topic of many discussions.

Also think of all the words we have in English that are really from other languages, but they are used either interchangibly or exclusively.
